When a program is not installed because the previous version is already there

Last night I managed to solve a problem that I had been carrying for a long time and which I attributed to the fact that my old computer with Windows XP, after several years and after installing hundreds of software, was compromised in some of its functions.
I thought that I would have to format and reset the PC, to eliminate certain annoying errors that no tool had corrected and instead everything was resolved, thanks to a Microsoft tool that I did not know and that is named very little in Italian forums and blogs.
Council to read and keep this post because it treats a type of error very frequent on Windows, which is easily resolved thanks to a tool that, personally, I did not know and that, at this point, I must insert in the list of indispensable and very important programs .
The problem is that, for some programs like the Nokia PC Suite, Itunes, Nod32, Opera, Office 2003 and others, you cannot uninstall the old version to put the new one more up to date .
For example, ITunes, when you download and install it, first of all, it removes the previous version but it does not succeed because it cannot find the Itunes.msi file.
The cause of this error lies in the proper use of programs such as CCleaner and others that clean registry keys and temporary files.
Unfortunately some software, when you install them, extract several files from the downloaded package, including one that ends with .msi, and place them in the Temp directory which is located in the hidden folder C: / Documents and Settings / $ User / Local settings / Temp .
In some cases, for example with Opera, this problem is solved with the total cleaning of all the references related to that program, manually deleting the directories, all the files, cleaning with CCleaner and eliminating it from the list of applications installed with programs such as Revo Uninstaller.
In other cases, however, especially with programs that have to do with drivers and external peripherals such as Itunes or Nokia PC Suite, something else remains of a previous version that cannot be eliminated with normal maintenance programs and that cannot be seen.
This something else I discovered was the Windows Installer configuration information related to the program.
Getting to the point, the only tool that I found capable of correcting these types of errors quickly and easily, disrupts it itself and is called Windows Installer CleanUp and does nothing but delete this configuration information from Windows Installer.
Windows Installer CleanUp is essential if installation errors occur while adding or removing all or part of the program that was not included in the initial installation.
Thus removing from the list of installed programs that you see on Windows Installer CleanUp, the program disappears from the computer, even if the files and registry keys were still present.
This way that software can be reinstalled or updated without problems.
Windows Installer Cleanup, which solved so many installation problems for programs like Office, Windows Live Essentials, Nero, Nokia Pc Suite and iTunes, no longer exists but can still be downloaded on Softpedia .
Microsoft has replaced the old tol with a fix-it to fix installation and uninstallation problems .
