On laptops, the fastest way to turn off your computer is not to go through the Start menu, but to close the lid or press the power button .
In order to shut down Windows in one of these two ways (or even both), however, it is necessary to change some settings.
In each version of Windows you can then open the control panel, go to the Hardware and Sound section -> Power saving options .
On the left side you have to click the link " specific behavior of power buttons " and you can ask to shut down the system when you press the shutdown button.
You can then turn off the PC with the on / off button without problems.
On laptops, in the Energy saving options screen, you can also click the link on the left " Specify what happens when the lid is closed " and then choose to shut down the system.
Personally I think that the shutdown of the PC via the button is very convenient, while I make sure that closing the lid sends the computer to sleep and not to shutdown.
All other ways of stopping Windows are:
- In Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, the shutdown options are also found by pressing the right mouse button on the Start menu .
- In Windows 10, 8.1 and Windows 7, you can turn off the PC with the keyboard by pressing the Alt F4 keys together.
If there are any windows or programs open, press Alt F4 to close them and then reuse this key combination to bring up the screen of choice for stopping Windows.
Pressing Enter turns off the computer.
