If Windows 10 does not install, solutions to update errors

A week after the release of Windows 10, which I remember everyone can now download for free to update Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 it is time to sum up and while for most people everything went well, for others there were problems, errors and malfunctions.
The fact that Windows is a system compatible with almost every computer in the world exposes it to even the most disparate errors, caused for the most part by a bad system configuration or by the fact that inside the computer there are too old pieces not more supported.
To help those who have problems with the update, if Windows 10 does not install and ends with error, Microsoft has a list of recognized and known errors that can be encountered during the process, which can be easily resolved.
For every Windows 10 installation error there is a code that can be searched on Google to find the cause of the problem and the solution to correct it.
Here then we see the solutions to the most frequent Windows 10 update or installation errors .

1) Code 0x80073712
Error 0x80073712 occurs when a file needed for Windows 10 is missing and updates still need to be installed from Windows Update.
2) Code 0x800F0923
If this error comes up it means that there is a driver in the computer that is not compatible with Windows 10.
All that remains is to contact MIcrosoft or the manufacturer of the computer to ask for an update or a solution to solve this problem is to contact Microsoft support.
3) Code 0x80200056
The error occurs if you have accidentally restarted your PC causing an interruption of the update process.
In this case, it is better to start over and be careful not to shutdown the computer due to a power failure.
4) Code 0x800F0922
With this error Windows tells us that the computer is unable to connect to the Windows Update servers.
This could happen on a corporate PC that goes on the internet via VPN or because of a firewall or because of an intermittent connection.
Disconnect from any VPN, make sure your internet connection is working and try updating again.
5) Generic error : Updates cannot be completed. Undoing the changes. Do not turn off the computer
These generic errors appear on the screen whenever the Windows 10 update fails.
In this case it is important to try to get the specific error code to understand how to investigate and what to do to solve the problem.
For each error you can trace the error code in the update history, from Windows Update, identifying the updates that have not been installed.
Once the code is obtained, you can search on Google or write on the Microsoft support site (in English otherwise you will not get full support).
6) The update is not applicable to the computer .
This error occurs when the PC has not yet installed the necessary updates.
Before starting the Windows 10 upgrade process, make sure that all important updates are already installed.
7) Code 0xC1900208 - 0x4000C
The error occurs when there is an incompatible application installed on the PC that blocks the update process and prevents it from completing it.
You must therefore check all the installed programs and remove the lesser known ones, the older ones and the ones never used.
8) Error 80240020
This is a particular error message which is accompanied with some instructions for solving the problem.
These instructions should appear with a notification.
Actually this error is solved in a simple way by opening the folder C: \ Windows \ SoftwareDistribution \ Download and deleting the contents.
To be sure, open a command prompt window as an administrator (from the Start menu in Windows 7 or from the Windows-X menu in Windows 8.1) and first run the Dism / Online / Cleanup-Image / RestoreHealth command to repair the image of the system and then wuauclt.exe / update to restart the update.
9) Codes 0xC1900200 - 0x20008, 0xC1900202 - 0x20008
It is possible that your PC does not meet the minimum requirements to download or install Windows 10.
Before trying again, check the minimum system requirements for Windows 10 update.
10) Codes 0x80070070 - 0x50011, 0x80070070 - 0x50012, 0x80070070 - 0x60000
These errors are all related to lack of disk space.
Before trying again, free up disk space on your PC
If you happen in this article and find other types of errors, leave a comment and let's try to find the solution together.
However, Microsoft has set up a call center service to resolve update problems.
In the event that after installing Windows 10 something does not work, if the screen remains black or if something important does not work, remember that you can always go back to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 with a recovery procedure that you can do, if the PC won't boot well, even in safe mode (refer to Windows 8 Safe Mode Guide)
