IPhone Notifications Management with permanent banners

In recent years the iPhone has improved the notification management system for apps a lot, making it more customizable and functional, to the point of being able to compete without problems with the notifications that can be managed on Android (from this point of view always one step ahead, at least so far).
For example, in previous versions of iOS the swipe down gesture on an unlocked device opened Today view and put notifications on a separate tab.
Luckily Apple has run for cover and allows you to manage notifications on each screen, complete with a banner that we can display at the top of the device.
If it is not very clear how the notifications on the iPhone work, we want to remove some annoying notifications or we want to activate the notifications of an app, in this guide we will show you how to effectively manage all the notifications of the iPhone, seeing how to activate the permanent banners for notifications, so you never miss the most important messages.

Activate iPhone permanent banners

An important feature of notifications on the iPhone is the on-screen banner . Almost all apps on iOS show a temporary banner on the screen as a notification, which appears at the top of the screen and then disappears after a few seconds. If you like this function, you can make sure that the banner of notifications is permanent and does not disappear after a few seconds, at least for the most important applications. With a permanent banner, the notification will continue to appear until you open it by touching it or until it is turned off.
The banner will remain in superimpression even if the phone locks automatically or manually and even if an application is opened. Permanent banners are truly exceptional to not miss even a notification generated by a really important application, for work or other reports.
To activate the permanent banners, all we have to do is go to the Impotations app, then press on the Notifications menu, scroll to the desired application, press on its name and finally open the Banner style menu, where we can activate the permanent instead of temporary banner .

Once this item is activated, the notifications for that app will remain visible at the top of the screen until we press on it, so as to keep the urgent news in the foreground and incoming messages from a particular app (we can use it for example on WhatsApp, on the Gmail app or for the Calendar app or for the SMS app).

How to change other notification settings

From the Settings> Notifications menu that we showed you a little while ago we can customize the behavior of all the notifications or even just for some applications.
In the screen that opens every time we press on the app in the menu, the options will appear to choose which type of alerts to display on the screen, if we want sounds to be emitted, if we want the notification counter to appear (Badge) and, always from the same screen, we can choose whether to show previews of text messages or emails or whether or not to group similar notifications together.

These items allow you to hide notifications from the lock screen, when we want to increase the privacy on our phone and prevent anyone who takes our iPhone from reading personal messages without even unlocking the phone (just activate the item When unlocked in the Show previews option ).
If we do not want any type of preview, just open the app on which we want maximum privacy and select the item Never from the Show previews option.
The Badge option is particularly useful for hiding the number of unread messages on the Email, SMS or Whatsapp or other chat app, always to obtain a higher level of privacy: knowing that you have over 10 or more messages or Emails from reading could distract us from work or worse trigger some suspicions to relatives or friends particularly interested in our private life!
From the same screen, we can also completely turn off notifications for a specific app: to achieve this, simply remove the check mark under the item Allow notifications, present on the screen of each app that we open in the Notifications menu. In this way we will no longer be disturbed by incessant or frustrating notifications, especially if coming from a game or from a commercial app that often notifies offers or occasions.
Some apps have a dedicated notification manager (in the case of Facebook at the bottom of the summary screen): this additional menu will allow you to choose which notifications to receive from the app, especially for those that can show different types of notification (new friends), new updates, new posts, new stories, new private messages etc.).

Conclusions

The management of notifications on the iPhone has become very effective and clear over time: each type of alert or notification can be customized from the menu shown in this guide, leaving us free to choose which notification to receive, whether to display the banner permanently for some apps important and whether to show previews only with the screen unlocked or never; for privacy buffs it is also possible to completely block notifications for a specific app, so as not to be disturbed without a valid reason (practically indispensable for iPhones used in business or work).
If we want to deepen the subject of notifications also for Android devices, we will only have to read our articles Guide to the Android notification bar and Block Android notifications or limit them only for some apps .
If, on the other hand, we want to personalize an iPhone even more decisively, we invite you to read our in-depth analysis How to enable widgets on iPhone and iPad, so as to also add convenient widgets to check information, weather and updates.
