Metal Assault: 2D horizontal shooter similar to Metal Slug, multiplayer and free

Fans of the 90s shooters at Metal Slug will be delighted to download and play for free Metal Assault, a horizontal scrolling MMO shooter game that is played for free both against the computer and in multiplayer mode, with and against other real players.
The game is not exactly new, it was launched several years ago and then closed for reasons I don't know.
It is therefore a welcome return for those who already played there and an opportunity for those who were looking for a game of this type, nowadays not at all common, very fun and fast.
The main feature, in fact, is that of having a 2D horizontal scrolling graphic, not with a subjective view, but with a lateral view that guarantees continuous action and fun often sacrificed by games with 3D graphics.
You can choose between 4 characters, each with different personal skills and you can participate in missions against or even in collaboration with other people.
Although the game may not be very varied over time, there are vehicles to drive, environments to explore and many increasingly powerful weapons to shoot with.
Players who enjoyed the Metal Slug-style side-scrolling shooters will surely love Metal Assault's quick and easy combat system, which is definitely worth playing.
Metal Assault can be downloaded for free from the Steam store, whose management client is to be installed if not done yet.
After installation, you can choose the character to use and it is better to follow a tutorial to learn the game movements: go back and forth, jump, lower and shoot, dodge, crawl, roll and throw grenades.
You can choose between 4 characters: Carl the most balanced, Burton the most resistant, Marie quick and precise in shooting, AI with the ability to explore.
The game modes are:
- Total battle with players divided into two teams with different objectives depending on the chosen mode:
- Death Match where the one who kills the most opponents wins.
- Steal Team Flag
- Zombie war.
In the latter, as happened in Metal Slug, you can play with other people, up to 16 together, shooting all the zombies in the picture.
The only flaw of this type of multiplayer games is that at the beginning you have to settle down with the meeting points between players and waste some time in asking for recruitment and in looking for missions.
Another flaw is that the game requires you to pay real money for certain important upgrades, although, fortunately, most players don't intend to spend money so at least at the beginning you can have fun without feeling disadvantaged.
As in the side scrolling 90s shooter games, the action is continuous and adrenaline, without thinking too much you have to shoot, jump, dodge shots, throw bombs, collect bonuses and weapons such as the rocket launcher or use mines and sniper rifles.
Players must try to stay alive and also try to achieve specific objectives such as killing 2 soldiers with one shot.
If you go up a level it becomes possible to use tanks and planes to fight with means of war.
Chatting allows players to converse with each other, but the game is so intense that it is rarely used in the middle of a battle.
