When you open a folder in Windows 10 you will immediately notice something different than both Windows 8 and Windows 7. The File Explorer in Windows 10 has some new options that may be welcome or unwelcome as appropriate.
For example, on the left side your favorite folders appear for quick access, assuming that they are the most used ones that you often need.
However, since the list of favorite folders is automatically fed on the basis of those that open most often, this can create a privacy problem if that PC is shared with other people.
I may therefore not want a family member or colleague to have such easy access to the folder where I keep my photos or to the one where I keep invoices and receipts.
To make a brief overview of the folder view in Windows 10 we see above all what are the main changes of the interface compared to previous versions of Windows.
Then press the folder icon at the bottom or press the Windows + E keys to open Windows Explorer in the initial position called Quick Access, the one where there are the most used folders.
It is like a Windows Explorer homepage that, if you prefer, you can change it by going to the folder options (click on the Options button at the top right of the File tab), choosing to have " This PC " as home, where you can see the discs.
1) The "Favorites" tab has been replaced with quick access which, as already mentioned, has some differences compared to before.
It includes commonly used folders and automatically suggests frequently used folders.
To quickly add a quick access folder, click on it, hold down and drag it to the left in the list.
Or you can right click and choose "add to quick access".
To remove a folder from the list, instead, you must right-click and find the option to remove it.
If you want to prevent the automatic addition of the most used folders, right click on the word "Quick Access", go to the options and in the privacy section of the first tab, uncheck the two options Show recent files and show recent folders .
2) Microsoft Onedrive is integrated in Windows Explorer and accessible from any folder quickly.
The files placed in Onedrive are synchronized in the cloud and become visible from any personal computer, which can be accessed with the same Microsoft account.
If you don't use it, you can remove or disable Onedrive from Windows 10
3) Share button
By pressing on a folder or file to select it, you will see a special menu at the top called Share.
It then becomes possible to email a folder, create a zip archive or send a file via an app installed by the store such as Facebook or Swiss Post.
from here you can also burn folders and files to a CD or DVD.
4) The View tab in Windows 10 gives many options for sorting files and showing them in different ways.
What has changed is the easy access to a little hidden options.
For example it is now easy, from this menu, to discover file extensions and see hidden files.
It is also worth trying the various views with boxes, which show preview and details depending on the choice.
5) The File menu integrates some buttons to quickly open the folder options, PC settings, system properties and also computer management and the utility to uninstall programs.
If you wanted to customize the view of folders in a radical way in Windows 10, to make Windows Explorer as it was in previous versions or to add or remove buttons and features there are several additional programs.
