Free up space with Google Photos on Android and iPhone

Google Photos has quickly become one of the most popular and most downloaded apps ever for its ability to create a backup copy of all the photos taken with the smartphone and even the videos.
In this way, you no longer have to worry about transferring photos from a mobile phone to a PC to keep them (because the photos are visible on the internet from any computer) and not even losing them when you change or lose your mobile phone.

With the recent update, Google Photos also becomes one of the most effective apps to free up space on the phone memory, both Android smartphone and iPhone.
Google Photos for Android and for iPhone has an automatic function inside that warns the user when the space of the internal memory of the smartphone.
If this warning appears, you can agree to delete a certain number of photos and videos to free up space, without losing them .
Those deleted, however, remain visible if the phone is connected to the internet and remain available online on their Google Photos web page.
Now this function has been improved in the latest version of Google Photos with a new option in the settings that allows you to free the device memory by deleting all the photos and videos already saved online .
These, as mentioned, are not lost, but remain online on the web page of your Google account.
To free up memory on Android, deleting photos and videos that are already saved online, do the following:
- Open the Google Photos application
- Touch the menu key and then Settings
- Touch " free space on the device ".
After the scan, it is written how much space is recovered with the deletion of X photos.
- Tap on Delete .
To free up space with Google Photos on iPhone, it works the same way, even if an extra step is required.
When the photos are saved with a backup, you can press the key with three lines in the upper left corner and then tap on " free space ".
After Google Photos has deleted the photos from the application, a warning message will appear telling you to complete the operation from the Photos app of the iPHone.
Then close Google Photos, open Apple Photos, open the trash in the Albums section and press the button to delete everything and empty the trash.
Keep in mind that backup in Google Photos is unlimited if you select, in Settings> Backup and sync, the option of upload size on high quality .
In case you were wrong, among the options there is the button to convert the photos uploaded with original size, in high quality, removing them from the limited space account of the Google account.
