The Expendabros is the game of the film The Expendables (in Italian " The Mercenaries ") in which all the more physical actors of Hollywood are protagonists, with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and others. The game is really fun, a run and shoot with side scrolling and retro gaming graphics, all action like the movie, very similar to Metal Slug .
Just like the film, even the game, among the best of its kind, leaves no room for reflections and thoughts, but only to be quick to move, shoot and jump trying to shoot down the enemies without being hit.
The 8-bit pixelated graphics are reminiscent of the arcade games worthy of the 90s, with continuous explosions and shots of all kinds.
With a fast pace, death is omnipresent and the characters jump and run to hit the enemies that appear going forward.
The whole environment is destructible, you can climb every wall and make your way through the enemy lines by shooting at everything in the name of freedom.
Using all the mercenaries is mandatory to pass a level and you just have to meet them along the way, free them and take control of the new "bros" while the first one disappears.
The game seems easy at first, except then when it is realized that death can occur at any time, with a single blow, incidentally or because of minimal distraction.
The bros all have two unique abilities, pistols, hand grenades, flamethrowers and knives.
When you die you start again from a checkpoint, with the mercenary previously freed.
If no bros has been released or if all the available lives have been used, the game ends and the level is started again.
The enemies in Expendabros are many and varied, each with its own ability to kill our heroes, even as suicide bombers.
The 8-bit graphics are very suggestive for a game of this genre and it is easy to distinguish the various characters of the film, see the blows that come upon us and admire the destruction of the environment and the death of the enemies absolutely bloody.
The animations of the characters and the fights are fast and exciting, with the screen full of chaos, explosions, blood and bullets in every direction.
The sound effects mirror those of the old style games, seasoned by the voices of the actors who warn us when one of the Expendabros is released.
The game is really fun to let off steam and remain thoughtless for half an hour or an hour, with a solid gameplay, a discreet humor, beautiful landscapes to destroy and variety of action depending on the character in use.
The keyboard controls are simple: arrow keys,, Z as the main weapon, X is a secondary weapon and C triggers a melee attack.
Although the game is rather short, The Expendabros is completely free to download and play, at least until December 31, 2014, the date from which it will no longer be available.
The Expendabros is an expansion of the Broforce game (which is not free), only for Windows PC, which can be downloaded for free from Steam .
