Even if it is not the official chat client for Facebook chat from the computer, after installation, just open Facebook on the browser to log in and access messages.
Facebook Messenger only works if, before logging in to the Facebook.com site, you put the cross on the " Stay connected " option, which you can only do on your personal PC.
When you exit Facebook (pressing the Exit button from the top right corner), you also exit Messenger and vice versa.
The messenger therefore remains active and connected online even if the web browser is closed.
At the bottom right a Facebook icon indicates the presence of the active Messenger.
Facebook Messenger is a very light client for using Facebook in a version limited to messages and notifications.
There are three buttons at the top: the one for friend requests, the one for private messages, the one for personal notifications.

If you click on the button at the bottom right, you can anchor Facebook Messenger on the right side of the screen and, in this way, you can always keep it visible even when working on other programs.
There are no other functions already active by chatting on the Facebook web page such as video calls and group chats on Facebook) but there is a way to stay offline in chat and not available to be contacted.
Finally, remember that Facebook Messenger on mobile allows you to write messages and SMS for free.
