Create a streaming video server on your computer

The various websites that put links on their pages to watch streaming movies do not host such content on their computers, because they use external platforms, similar to YouTube, where videos can be uploaded. Clearly these sites are on the verge of legality and perhaps illegal if they share links for the streaming of cinema films or videos protected by copyright.
A normal person, who does not want to challenge the legal system, who does not want to start risky and demanding online activities but above all who does not want to upload films or videos on sharing sites to share them with the whole world, has two options:
- Share the video privately by uploading it to the internet.
- Stream movies, videos and music from your computer to view them from other computers or iPhones.
All this can do it without wasting time uploading them to other internet sites, without any risk of infringing copyrights and with the advantage of seeing the movies that are on your computer from any other PC or console .
In the past we had seen how to create a streaming web channel and how it was possible to browse the web and watch movies on the PC also from Playstation, Wii or Xbox but only in an internal network.
All this can be done with much more ease and privacy, by sharing videos and files with anyone (not only on the home network), without uploading and downloading, in two different but similar ways as a concept.
1) AirPlayit allows you to stream video and music from your computer to iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Computers and iPhones or iPads must be connected to the same wifi network but you can also make sure to receive the computer data streamed from the 3G connection. With Airplayit you can also download videos from iPhone or iPad.
2) The best free and easy solution is to upload videos to your pCloud and then install the relevant application on your mobile phone or iPad to be able to stream them from the internet from anywhere.
3) OwnCloud is a free program that turns your computer into a streaming server .
When the software is running on the PC, any other device that has access to the Internet and is able to browse websites (such as the Nintendo Wii, PS3, a notebook, another pc, a PDA, an IPhone, a Xbox, etc.) can also view any video file that is shared on the streaming server. Installation is really simple: just download the Emit program and install it on the computer you want to use as a server (Mac, Windows or Linux). Music, Pictures and Videos folders can be added.
It becomes clear therefore that if one uses many computers or if he travels a lot, he can configure the home PC as a media server, keep it on and then, wherever he goes, watch the movies, that has that PC, streaming, without wasting time doing downloads.
4) Tonido is a program that installs a Cloud server on your computer to share the entire multimedia library you have on your computer and, therefore, put online the photos, music and videos that are on your computer, without however uploading them to the internet.
The PC, in this case too, becomes a multimedia server to which you can connect from other computers.
5) The third method is to install a Media Center program on the PC and create a DLNA or UPMP server.
With programs like Plex the system is much simplified compared to other more complicated procedures.
6) Opera Unite (no longer exists)
To have Opera Unite and the web server function you need to download Opera 11 from FileHippo.
Practically Opera allows, upon registration, to have a free website like pomhey.operaunite.com from which to share files .
By enabling the server function on the PC, with Opera Unite it is not necessary to upload files remotely, they are already online when the service is enabled. So it happens that, keeping the computer on (if the server was off, the service would be disabled), from any other computer you can browse the shared files and download them. In addition to the trivial File sharing function that allows you to share files with friends or anyone and to download files from other PCs, there are also:
The media player : share music in one click and stream it over the internet.
The web server : you can load a web page or an entire website from your pc. Photo Sharing to view computer photos from the outside. The only limitation of this system is related to the connection speed possessed by the computer which turns into a server. For example, I don't have a good connection so I don't think you can see that video on my pc, maybe you can tell me if you can hear the music. However, consider that if I, from my home, connect to operaunite from another PC or from a console, always from home, the transfer speed is 10 times faster because I remain in my internal network. So this is also a great way to share files, images, music and videos on other home computers, but keeping them on only one of them that acts as a server.
