An Avatar can be defined as a virtual character that takes our real image or the digital graphic representation of ourselves on a computer. An avatar can be any image, as long as it identifies a person and is not a real photograph. With Avatars all people can make themselves recognizable on chats and in online games by creating their own different image to the real one.
In several other articles we have seen how to create personalized avatars to be used on the internet, with web applications that allow you to choose the type of figure, hair, eyes, mouth and so on.
We have also seen some apps to create avatars of themselves from the smartphone, of different types.
In this article we see a new application, different from the others and clearly more innovative because it allows you to create a 3D avatar identical to us, automatically, starting from the photo of our face.
The app is Virtual You, available free for iPhone and for Android.
After installing the app on your phone, without having to register (but you must accept the privacy policy), you can immediately follow the wizard to create your own 3D Avatar. Following the writing on the screen, therefore, you will simply have to take a photo of your face using the selfie camera, choose the haircut and the type of build and then wait for the processing until the 3D figure appears, with our face. The avatar with our face can then be further customized by choosing the type of eyes, nose, mouth and also clothes, beard and glasses.
What can you do with this virtual avatar?
For the moment, the app does not allow you to save or share the generated 3D image which can still be saved by taking a screenshot of the phone screen.
The avatars generated by the app can be used in any environment based on the High Fidelity virtual reality program which is currently being tested (to try it you must ask for an invitation on the High Fidelity website). This is not a game, but a project aimed at helping freelancers and digital nomads to stay in touch and recognizable with an avatar that represents them.
It must be considered that there are not many alternatives to apps of this type (which create 3D Avatars starting from the photo). In other articles we have however talked about
