Virtual tours of 3D online museums, monuments, cathedrals in Italy and worldwide

Holidays are a time to take advantage of to go to visit new places, to travel and go to see museums or landscapes of Italy or with trips to European capitals or places in the world. One of the wonders of the Internet is that it can bring the world to you, for anyone who stays at home and doesn't have the time or money to physically explore landscapes and monuments in the traditional way. Traveling is among the most beautiful things in life and I love it but I am aware that it will be impossible to see all the museums, cathedrals, monuments and wonderful natural landscapes that are in places sometimes far away and difficult to reach.
The virtual tour is a panoramic visit technology that manages to bring, via the internet, to the computer screen, high resolution images that can be explored in three dimensions, interactive, as if you were really in the photographed place. Virtual tours are also an excellent resource for children, to show them the wonders of the world, to study and learn.
Since you don't need a passport and every visit is free, let's go here to see the best sites where to visit online museums, the most beautiful monuments and landscapes in Italy, Europe and worldwide or in general.
1) Google Arts And Culture is the new Google site that has photographed in 3D different museums of the world, for a complete virtual visit, through Street View technology . On the site there are currently: Versailles in Paris, Berlin Museums, Madrid (Reina Sofia and Tyssen), New York Metropolitan, Nationa Gallery in London, Uffizi in Florence, Van Gogh in Amsterdam and several others). On Google Art Project you can see high resolution and enlarged photos of the works of each museum and you can save your favorite images on your own personal account.
Inside Google Arts there is also Open Heritage, which allows you to discover in 3D how the large cathedrals and works of art are restored, offering a very high level of detail to look closely at historical works.
2) Art Project is not the only site where you can look at high resolution images and photos of the most beautiful paintings and works of all time.
In another article, the best sites to search for works of art and view them online are listed .
3) The tour of online museums are not yet so widespread but you can visit the internet, even if only partially, the museums:
  • Louvre ;
  • D'Orsay Museum (of the Impressionists) in Paris;
  • The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam;
  • The Uffizi gallery in Florence;
  • The museum of photographic arts in America;
  • Brera 's picture gallery
  • Archaeological Museum of Athens
  • Prado museum in Madrid
  • British Museum - London
  • Metropolitan Museum - New York
  • National Gallery of art - Washington
  • Vatican museums

I have not found other Italian museums online but the virtual tours of the Vatican museums, the Sistine Chapel in 3D, the Vatican necropolis, the Raphael Room and many others that are on the official website deserve.
4) The second tool to be used for virtual travel and 3D panoramic tours is Google Earth Pro . On Google Earth Pro (after installing it as a free program) you can import digital reconstructions of some monuments, famous landscapes and historical places, visible as they once were. With Google Earth, by enabling 3D buildings, we have the possibility to download and visit from the computer:
  • Tour of cathedrals including Notre Dame, San Marco in Venice, WestMinster Abbey, the Palace of Versailles and others.
  • Tour of castles and palaces
  • Museums of 3D Art .
  • Beijing tour
  • Tour of buildings in the US capitals.
  • Skyscrapers tour.
  • 3D tour of the bridges.
  • Colosseum in Rome .
  • Trevi Fountain
  • Arc de Triomphe in Paris

5) A little on Google Earth and a little using the Street View application of Google Maps we saw, on another page, several virtual tours and panoramic visits to historic and modern cities such as Pompeii, Ancient Rome, Toledo, Prague, San Gimignano, Siena, Urbino, Salamanca, Caceres, Santiago de Compostela, The Seine in Paris,
6) The best site of all that contains most of the virtual 3D tours with interactive panoramic photos to be explored at 360 degrees, at very high resolution, is, without any doubt, 360Cities.net. So there are the panoramic Flash reconstructions with photos to explore and zoom in to very detailed levels, as if you were in European cities such as: Amsterdam, Athens (including the Parthenon), Berlin, Bruges, Copenhagen, Paris, Monaco, Barcelona, Madrid, Stockholm, Valencia, Vienna and other European cities. There are also Italian cities: Pisa, Genoa, Florence, Turin, Venice, Verona, Milan, Parma and Rome .
In this regard, it is necessary to underline the 3D navigable photos of the Milan Cathedral, the Venice Biennale and a Gondola ride, Santa Maria Maggiore and St. Peter's Square in Rome, the Colosseum inside and outside, the Museums of Lathe including the Egyptian museum and that of contemporary arts, the Genoa aquarium, the Tower of Pisa and much more.
7) It is worth mentioning here also the article on online telescopes and sites to travel Space and the one on visits to Google Earth of Mars and the Moon.
8) We have already talked about the tour in Google Earth in the seabed.
9) Among others, you can mention the site on the 7 wonders of the world with beautiful videos and photos on the old and new 7 most beautiful places on Earth.
10) Other sites with virtual travel and panoramic views with 360 degree images are described on another page.
I think that with this, we will have to travel, virtually, both for these last days of Easter holidays and for the next few days.
If you know others, let them know, while I remember that you can create virtual tours of the interior or home with interactive 3D maps similar to those of online museums, even at home.
