Notification area options in Windows 10 to show / hide icons

One of the most important parts of the Windows desktop is the notification area, that area of icons at the bottom right next to the clock .
In this section, Windows shows which programs are active and allows quick access to those basic functions such as internet connection and audio volume.
In Windows 8.1 and then in Windows 10 this notification area has been improved, with customization options that are important to know, both to have less confusion and to be able to discover hidden icons .
In this article we see how to configure the icons displayed in the notification area in Windows 10 which, as you will see, has different options than in the past.

To choose which icons to see in the notification area, you must right-click on the clock and then press on " Customize notification icons ".
If in other versions of Windows this link led to a control panel screen, in Windows 10 you reach the Options > Settings> System> Notifications and Actions screen .
From here you can click on the link to select which icons to display on the taskbar.
For each of them there is a switch to show or hide the icon of the relative program .
The hidden icons do not disappear from the notification area and are always visible by pressing the up arrow located to the left of the first icon (or the last one counting from the right).
Keep in mind that by pressing the left mouse button on an icon and holding it down, you can move it wherever you want.
As in all versions of Windows, pressing the left mouse button opens the window of the program related to it while pressing on it with the right button opens the quick options of the program.
Hiding a program icon does not mean preventing it from being loaded in the background.
To prevent this, you should generally find the option to start automatically at Windows startup by clicking on the icon with the right button and, in some cases, by opening the preferences or Settings screen.
Alternatively, you can select programs to start automatically from the Windows 10 task manager.
Going back to System Settings, to the Notifications and Actions menu, click now on Turn off system icons .
Here you can hide the icons that Windows 10 shows by default and view other hidden icons.
In particular, it is possible to hide the language indicator (which if you only use the PC in Italian is not necessary) and the icon of the Windows 10 notification center.
Through the two menus it is therefore possible, theoretically (practically not convenient), to hide each button from the notification area including the clock and to have full space on the taskbar.
If desired, as seen in the past, it is possible to minimize each window on the notification area by means of tools to be installed on Windows.
