Manage Gmail notifications on Android to receive only the important ones

Gmail is one of the most downloaded and used applications in the world, a client to receive very powerful emails and very rich in functions to configure message reception and email management.
With all these options, it can happen to have some problems and one of the most common and more particular ones is linked to the notifications of the Gmail app on Android smartphones and tablets, which can arrive for the reception of only some messages and not all of them or that they can come twice.
Since notifications on the phone must be useful and never too many, we see here how to configure Gmail on Android to receive notifications only of the most important messages, instead leaving unread the emails that are certainly not urgent and that we can also read later or never.
So you don't need to turn on all notifications or continuously check your phone when you are waiting for an important email, just set the right filters, labels and appropriate notification settings in Gmail.
Creation of filters and labels
I had already written the guide to set up filters and labels in Gmail talking about how important they are for sorting and organizing incoming mail.
To create filters and labels you need to use the web version of Gmail from your computer.
Very briefly, to create a label, open an e-mail, press, on the top of the screen, the arrow icon (or on Other ) and select Filter messages of this type .
The filter will already be set according to the sender of that email, but it can be changed as you wish, perhaps indicating a word present in the subject or body of the message.
Then click on " create a filter for this search " and then on Apply label by creating a new one or using one already created before.
New email messages that match the filter criteria will be automatically classified with that label.

Now open the Gmail app on your Android smartphone or tablet, tap the menu button and then go to Settings .
Touch the email address whose notifications you want to configure and make sure that the Notifications box is activated.
Then scroll down to the settings page and tap on Label Management .
In this screen you can choose which emails to receive on the app depending on the label and whether to activate an audio or even vibrating notification .
Press the first option immediately, that of the Inbox, which must surely be synchronized with a time interval of at least 30 days (that is, the titles of all the emails received in the last 30 days will be downloaded), but without receiving notification.
Go back to the labels list and, one by one, select if you want to synchronize the mail and if you want to receive notifications for those messages.
In general, I recommend activating notifications for all important messages, special ones and those with labels that we want to be reported immediately by phone.
For these it is also possible to choose a different notification sound depending on the email received and whether to be warned for each new message or only for the first (it is understood that if there is the notification of one, by touching it, you will also read any other emails arrived).
Scrolling through the labels you will find one that says " all messages " which must be deactivated both in notifications and in automatic synchronization to avoid receiving double notifications (the one from the label and the one from all).
The same obviously must be for spam .
As for the sent mail, it is worthwhile to activate the synchronization of the last 30 days, so you can review our messages.
At the end, the screen that lists all the various labels will show a summary of our configuration, with the indication if synchronization is active and if notifications are active.
This method can also be used with any other email notification program, including PC programs, if they are capable of displaying Gmail labels.
Be careful, on Android, even if you are using the Inbox app together with the Gmail app because in this case double notifications will arrive for each incoming message.
One of the two applications must be disabled in the notifications.
