Automatic shutdown of a windows PC with sleep timer

Setting the automatic shutdown of the computer after a certain period of time can be useful especially in cases where you watch television with a TV card or if you leave the PC to download and you want it to turn off after a certain time.
In another article, however, it explains how to turn off the computer remotely .

The command line from dos for immediate shutdown is:
shutdown.exe -s -t 01 -f
You must therefore open a new text document (.txt) with the notepad, write the line above, and save the text file with the name "shutdown.bat" thus transforming it into a batch file.
Put the file inside the folder C: / -> open the control panel -> Open Scheduled Tasks -> create new scheduled task -> Choose the file C: /shutdown.bat using the browse button -> choose time at which it must be run and the computer will automatically shut down at the set time.
It is important to create the new scheduled operation with a Windows login username and password, so if no password has been set, it must be done.
Prerequisite to optimize this procedure and the following is to read the article on how to make the shutdown of a Windows PC faster
As described in a previous article on how to best use a TV card, there are several very good software to watch TV on the computer but none of them provide automatic shutdown or sleep timer in case, for example, you watch TV from read before falling asleep.
Getting up to turn off the computer may not be so pleasant ...
Browsing the internet I found a very small graphical tool for windows, vista or xp, which once started allows you to set a timer of 5, 15, 30, 60, 180 minutes at the end of which the computer will turn off automatically.
The autoshutdown program is called Vistashutdown (it also works on Windows XP); to consult the guide of that site to see the options available from the command line.
In addition to shutting down the computer automatically, you can also put it into hibernation, standby or restart.
It is also possible to establish a continuous and daily shutdown time as a scheduler if the computer is used to download leaving it on for several hours without our presence.
Setting Vistashutdown via the command line is used, for example, to configure the buttons on the remote control to launch the program automatically .
For example, for a hauppauge card, write to the irremote.ini file
GUIDE = {run (C: \\ VistaShutdownTimer.exe [AUTO] F O1)}
When you press the GUIDE button on the remote control, the sleep timer tool starts, with a graphic banner that warns you that it will switch off in 15 minutes; if you press GUIDE again it changes the time to 30 minutes, pressing it again to 45 minutes and so on until it is deactivated.
At the end of the time the computer shuts down (parameter F is the force shutdown and it is essential).
Another useful program to turn off the computer automatically at a preset time is AmpWinOff .
With this program you can choose to turn off the PC at the same time during all the days of the week or configure a different shutdown according to the day.
Indispensable tool for those who download even at night and who replace the shutdown.bat script to be put into scheduled operations.
In addition to this, there are also other programs to shutdown the computer automatically
On another post, it is explained how it is possible, always with the use of timers, to restart or awaken Windows automatically after a Stand By or a Suspension / Hibernation and then how to turn on the PC faster without ever turning it off.
