In a past article I wrote a brief guide to the use of Nokia PC Suite, the Nokia mobile phone manager useful for saving photos, videos and all contents inside the phone, on the PC. The major flaw of this program is related to the saving of the address book and of the sent and received sms messages that are displayed only on the Nokia Pc Suite and cannot be extracted in a file format that can be opened with other text editors.
Basically, if you lose your mobile phone or it breaks, you can move the address book and messages saved on another Nokia mobile phone but not on other brands of mobile phones.
UPDATE: The new Nokia 2018 smartphones are all Android smartphones, so the programs below do not work, the PC Suite no longer exists and you can save the Android address book to the Google account .
The address book is then saved in an illegible file and hidden inside the C: / documents and settings / application data / nokia folder.
It therefore takes a tool called opensource called NokNokWhosThere very useful to extract contacts and messages that are in the backup of the Nokia Pc Suite.
The list of text messages and the address book are thus saved in a file that can also be read with the notepad, which can be imported to Microsoft Outlook, to the PC address book or can be used to bring telephone numbers and old text messages to another mobile phone, from another brand .
Another opensource program for extracting phone book numbers, SMS, photos and more from a Nokia mobile phone (backed up with the Nokia PC Suite) is easier to use NBUExplorer .
This program can read the Nokia Content Copier NBU, NFB and NFC generated by the Nokia PC Suite and therefore allows you to save what is inside the phone memory on your computer.
NbuExplorer extracts the contents by generating a VCF file for each contact.
Likewise, SMS are saved as VMG files while notes and reminders as TXT and calendar entries as VCS files.
Music, pictures, ringtones, themes, etc. are saved in their original format.
NbuExplorer can also be used to transfer contacts and SMS messages when switching from one Nokia mobile phone to another such as Android or Windows Phone.
