How to reduce PC power consumption

Depending on the case, use and configuration, a PC can consume more or less energy, especially if it is a fixed desktop computer, perhaps also used to play.
The power of the PC, the use of heavy graphics and video games and age are factors that greatly influence the energy efficiency of the computer.
For example, older PCs are generally less efficient than modern ones because they have a less good transformer and poorly optimized energy management.
In any case, whatever computer you are using, there are several tips for making the PC consume as little energy as possible, without obviously giving up its full functions.

The hibernation mode is instead a complete shutdown that saves the state of the computer and brings it back when the PC is turned on again.
The hibernate option is always found in the energy-saving options while the hibernate option may be hidden.

If you are in the habit of leaving your computer turned on for work or downloading, you can always check if the program has an option to turn off the PC after finishing.
4) Replace the hard drive with an SSD
The SSD, compared to the traditional hard disk, consumes much less energy because it has no moving mechanical parts.
Upgrading your computer to an SSD solid state drive reduces its power consumption and dramatically increases overall system performance.
We have seen, in another article, how to move Windows to SSD without reinstalling everything.
5) Using the energy saving options in Windows you can optimize the battery consumption even more by changing some advanced settings (even if of minimal impact).
Even taking these recommendations to heart, the real way to make the PC consume little energy is to buy a low power one.
Basically you should buy a new computer instead of the old one but avoiding to equip it with high-end high-consumption video cards such as those of NVIDIA or AMD.
If you have an old computer, the one whose fan makes a lot of noise and never stops spinning, it can be useful to at least change the power supply with a new one.
Ideally, the normal desktop PC should be replaced with a mini computer such as the NUC or the Chromebox which, in addition to being very comfortable and small, is also energy efficient.
