Manage Windows services with programs to start and stop them

When talking to a Windows expert or reading an online guide, it is always said that managing Windows services (Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or even server versions) is an expert job.
This is actually a bit true because the services, despite being an uncomplicated IT concept, are difficult to understand but above all because the default tool for managing Windows services is inconvenient and difficult to understand.
To begin with, it is a hidden tool that you can start by writing in the search bar of the Start menu or in the Run command Services.msc bar .
At the bottom there are two tabs for changing views, from extended to standard .
With the extended view you can read details about the individual services selected.
The services can be started, stopped or restarted and you can define whether they should start automatically or manually.
A Windows service is nothing more than a program that acts in the background on the computer .
Those who are not experts have no idea which services it is convenient to stop because they are useless and which ones are essential to have active.
A solution to better orient yourself with services is to use an external tool that allows you to manage the services of Windows systems in a easier and clearer way .
Playing to stop and start the services at random you risk a malfunction of the computer which could then require a configuration restore.
The default Windows tool, for example, makes it difficult to notice dependencies between services, that is, if one of them is stopped, another linked to it by dependency will not be bootable.
1) An excellent program to manage Windows services is Turbo Services Manager, a free software for 32 bit and 64 bit systems, for XP, Vista and windows 7, which makes the list of services all in a table
For each service, the name, the type of startup, the description in Italian and the dependencies are specified, if it depends on other services or if other services depend on it.
With the menu at the top you can change the settings: Action are the start and stop actions while Startup configures the start mode, whether automatic manual or disabled .
Another improvement is the ability to save the status of all services .
In this way, tests and experiments can be carried out by changing the starts or deactivating some of them, with the possibility of returning to the initial configuration at any time .
This mode is also useful for enabling network functions during the working day but not when using the computer for private things or for playing games.
The more experienced can therefore create different configurations for the computer (each service consumes memory so, depending on the use of the PC, they can be started or not) to be used from time to time.
To save and load new system configurations just the State menu.
Turbo Services Manager is a practical program much more effective than the default Windows program for managing Services.
2) Easy Service Optimizer is a free portable program that allows you to choose an optimized profile by stopping unnecessary services to Windows.
There are 4 profiles, the default one, the secure one, the tweak one and the extreme one.
In general, you can use the extreme one and disable all the services indicated forever, unless specific needs are met.
Easy Service Optimizer also allows you to control the individual services, start and stop them.

3) Another program to better manage services is Smart Utility which, like Turbo Services, allows you to save and load different configurations from time to time.
In addition to this, Smart Utility is useful to help the less experienced, providing 3 types of recommended customizations.
From the drop-down menu at the bottom right you can then choose to activate secure tweaks to deactivate those services that are superfluous to 99% of computers and thus gain memory and speed.
4) Nirsoft's ServiWin is an official Microsoft problem diagnosis tool for managing the services and drivers installed on the system.
The program loads the list of drivers at startup; each driver is listed with its name, status, startup type, description, versions and related company information.
In particular, the type of startup and the version of the driver are useful for solving problems of unrecognized or non-functioning peripherals.
The top toolbar contains buttons for starting, stopping and restarting a selected driver.
The right-click menu offers even more than those including changing the state to pause and start type.
From the View menu you can change the view from drivers to services and vice versa.
Active services are colored in blue while disabled services are colored in red.
5) Windows service Master is another tool to manage Windows services with a different interface but since it is only in English it may not be a convenient tool for the less able.
6) Service Manager is a free program to manage services and drivers not only on a Windows PC, but also on other PCs on a computer network.
From the portable version, without installation, of Service Manager you can see all the Windows services in a table with their name, type, status, process ID, path, version and other values.
You can thus start, stop or restart the services.
7) Service Monitor is a different tool that allows you to manage the Windows services of multiple computers simultaneously .
You can add / remove services and choose a time interval to start, stop or restart the selected services.
The Tools menu also provides access to the Event Viewer and MMC console of Windows services.
8) Advanced Windows Service Manager is a tool designed to control security threats that are hidden between Windows services .
The tool is equipped with Rootkit and malware detection.
The tool also includes an online scan function.
9) My Windows Services is a program that allows you to manage Windows services with a more beautiful interface and on off switches.
In another article I remember the list of services that can be disabled to improve system performance.
