We purchased an iMac or MacBook as a home computer, although we were aware of the fact that Mac OS is profoundly different from Windows, even for very common operations. Among the most important operations when we buy a new Mac, the configuration of the email accounts certainly stands out, so we can quickly read the inbox, write new messages and download the attachments of our interest.
If we are new to the Mac world and need a hand, this guide is for you: here in fact we will show you how to add and remove emails on Mac, so as to always have at hand all the mailboxes we use (even those company) and, if we have already added mailboxes, we will show you how to remove the superfluous ones or that we no longer want to follow on Mac.

How to add and remove emails on Mac

In order to add a new mail account on Mac, we will have to use the Mail program, integrated into the operating system and able to manage every aspect of the mailboxes. We then click on the corresponding icon in the bottom bar or open the Launchpad and search for the Mail program. At the first start the program itself will ask you what type of account to add.

If we use Gmail as an email provider, we choose the voice Google; if instead we use Microsoft Outlook we choose the Exchange entry. We can also add the email account managed by Apple itself (iCloud) or Yahoo! and Aol .. If we have the configuration parameters of our corporate email account, we can configure it on the Mac using the Other Mail account item and filling in the required fields.
In any case we will be shown the login screen, where you can enter the login credentials for the email service that we want to add to the Mac, i.e. the actual email address and the login password. After entering the credentials and confirming (PINs or additional codes may be required, especially if we have activated two-factor authentication ) we will have the mailbox synchronized in the app and we will get the opportunity to receive notifications of new emails on time real (while using the Mac) and the ability to send e-mail messages to contacts synchronized with the account (which will also be available to other system apps and the iCloud service, so as to also be synchronized on the iPhone).
If we have already added a mail account in the past and want to manage two or more, we open the Mail app on our Mac, click on the Mail menu at the top and select the Add account item.

The steps are identical to those already seen at the first start: we will only have to enter the email address and password of the mail account to be able to synchronize it within the program, obtaining a new separate section with all the folders provided by the service (available in the left bar of the program).
If instead we wanted to remove an email account used so far on the Mac, all we have to do is open the Mail program, click on the Mail menu at the top and select the Preferences item; in the window that will open select the Account tab, select the mail account we intend to remove (in the left section) then click on the bottom button - (minus) to confirm the removal.

If we have used the account on other apps on the Mac, we will also have to remove the mail account from another menu, precisely from Internet Account in System Preferences (we can find it by clicking on the symbol of the bitten apple at the top left).
Then click on the Internet Account menu, select the mail account from those available, deselect the box indicated as Mail then press the Remove button (minus symbol) at the bottom to confirm the removal of the account from any app on the Mac.
Note : Mac Mail also works very well with PECs, so we can also use it to read, write and download attachments from our Certified E-mail account.

Use Mozilla Thunderbird on Mac

If the Mail app does not satisfy us or we are unable to synchronize more than 2 or 3 accounts well, we can always use the free and open source program Mozilla Thunderbird, the best email client for computers. Once you open the page at the top with our Mac, we click on the MacOS icon next to the Italian version, so as to start downloading the .DMG file, the classic program installation file on Mac. At the end of the download we do double click on the downloaded file, wait a few seconds then drag the program icon into the Applications folder, as shown in the window that will appear in the foreground.

We don't have to do anything else! We close the window and open Thunderbird, looking for it inside the Launchpad. At startup we provide the consents to the necessary permits, so that we can find ourselves with the program interface.

At startup the program will ask us to set up an email account immediately, by typing the email address and password; automatically the client will recover the connection parameters and synchronize the mail inside it. If we want to add more accounts, just click on the top on Tools -> Account settings and, in the window that will open, expand the Account actions item and select Add mail account .
From this same screen we can remove the mail accounts that we no longer want to synchronize, using this time on Delete account .
