Battles and turn-based strategy, Battle Of Wesnoth, free for Windows Linux and Mac PCs

Have you ever played a computer game in the evening, before going to sleep, thinking of staying half an hour just to sleep and then, after starting to play, look at the clock and find that it has magically passed three or four hours "> Travian browser games, where you play online against other people and you make moves and movements limited by a time timer.
2) There are turn-based games similar to Worms, the famous game where you play against each other (or against the computer) and shoot once for one, until one of the players loses all combat units .
3) There are the war and strategy games, with more complex battles, where you become an army general and you have to move it in an extremely strategic way (see also Civilization for free)
Battle of Wesnoth can be placed in this third category and is based on a plot that leads the player to face several consecutive campaigns and missions.
After installing the game, you will see a list of the campaigns to be faced and you will immediately realize that before finishing them all it will take several hours of play.
One thing that is striking at first glance is the Battle of Wesnoth soundtrack, with music that is very sad but very suitable for the theme of the game.
Immediately after you look at the graphics, very accurate, which seems to be drawn by hand.
Depending on the mission envisaged by the campaign you are about to face , the soldiers recruited on the battlefield are strategically placed .
The goal may be to escape (the first mission involves escaping from the Orcs' assault) or to take as much advantage as possible to win.
During the game and between missions there are dialogues and scenes showing the storyline unfolding.
At the beginning of each campaign it is shown what happens if it is successful and what a possible failure can represent.
Even those who have never played turn-based strategy games will not find it difficult to learn how to play Battle of Wesnoth because it is really playable and fast in the controls .
Just click with the mouse on one of the characters to see their statistics and the number of moves available.
The tiles where you can move are highlighted on the map.
Just to understand, it's like playing Checkers or Chess only that the rules are those of war and the game has a less professional character.
When you get close to the enemy, you can attack by choosing the weapon and looking at an estimate of the damage it can do.
After your turn, move the enemy who can move the checkers or attack with weapons.
In the case of an attack, your men will defend themselves.
During a battle, new units can also be recruited and fighter positions swapped.
When all the game's campaigns are over, you can still download other missions and new maps to face other battles.
This is the beauty of open source games like Battle for Wesnoth, the fact that even after finishing it, you can still play with missions created by other users.
I almost forgot: until now I have hinted that games are always played against the computer; instead the game is also multiplayer and you can organize wars one on one or in a group of maximum 8 players, in truly engaging online battles .
Battle Of Wesnoth is also in Italian and can be downloaded for free and installed on Windows, Linux, Mac and iPhone .
The installation file is about 300 MB and the opensource project is absolutely alive, so much so that the latest version was released in January.
