Samsung mobile phones running the Android operating system can update the firmware of the mobile phone using the management program provided by Samsung itself. On most phones there is also the update option in the settings menu, however, if it were not present or if there was no possibility to connect to the internet, it could be easier to use the Samsung program from the computer. From the official page you can download Samsung Kies or Smart Switch in Italian, which is a kind of iTunes for Samsung and is used to install applications on the phone, update it and do other things.
The installation may take some time because it must also install the drivers on the computer and require a system restart.
There are two versions of Samsung Kies, the 2 for phones with Android 4.2.2 and earlier, the 3 for Android 4.3 and later.
On your phone, close all open applications by holding down the center button until the option to close all running applications appears.
Then connect, via the USB cable, the phone to the PC which should automatically recognize the Kies connection.
If the connection gives problems, try to go, on Android, in the menu Settings -> Applications -> Development and remove the Debug mode.
Samsung Kies will search automatically, on the computer connected to the internet, if there are updates for the Android phone.
If updates are found, it is better to interrupt the process and proceed with the backup copy of all data, including the address book, to avoid losing them. Firmware updates should not erase anything but can alter or remove data on the phone so it is always prudent to make a copy of it. Obviously you can use Kies to export data and backup everything on your computer: contacts, photos, music, videos, calendar and other things.

During the Samsung Kies update, it would be better not to touch a PC or a cell phone to avoid conflicts or errors.
