App to save SMS on Android online or on PC

A convenient thing on the iPhone is the fact that in any case, even if the mobile phone is lost or broken, data such as the address book and the SMS are still saved online in the iCloud backup.
On Android, on the other hand, Google manages the backups of important data which is saved on your Gmail account and which is transferred to each smartphone or tablet which is accessed with the same account.
Among these data there are the settings, the wifi passwords and it is possible to keep the contact directory which is synchronized so that, even if you lose your mobile phone, you can always recover the address book and contact numbers.
If for the backup of the photos there is Google Photos, which Whatsapp and Facebook automatically create a backup of the messages (Whatsapp saves the messages in Google Drive), the only thing that remains out and that is not saved anywhere are the SMS .
To have a backup of the SMS and save them on a PC or on an online service that can recover them at any time, you must install an application that makes it possible.

Among the apps for saving SMS we have two types, those that save them online in a private web account and those that transfer SMS to the PC to have them locally.
For the first type of app there are some very comfortable and very clever, completely free, which are able to take advantage of the Google account to save SMS so as not to have to rely on a third party service (avoiding the risk that it may close or become paid).
These apps are SMS Backup & Restore and SMS Backup + .
1) SMS Backup & Restore allows you to save SMS in an XML file that remains stored in the SD card or that can be kept on your Google Drive archive (who has a Gmail also automatically has a space on Google Drive).
The app is really very simple and in the settings you can choose that the backup created locally on the phone's memory is also saved in Google Drive or, if you prefer, in Dropbox or sent via Email to then be able to save it also on PC.
The application is also capable of saving the call log.
During configuration, the only trick is to set the app as the default for managing SMS.
After making the backup you can open the SMS app that was being used to restore it to default.
In the case of a new mobile phone or after a reset with memory deletion, you can reinstall the SMS Backup app and use the function to restore the file (or open Google Drive, find the backup file and open it with SMS Backup & Restore) .
2) SMS Backup + is another free and simple app that saves SMS and the call log in your Gmail account.
SMS messages and even phone history can be restored from Gmail.
This app is also capable of making automatic and scheduled SMS backups, so you don't have to do it manually.
3) GCloud Backup is another alternative app that instead uses a free account of its service and allows you to configure the automatic saving of the address book, documents, photos, music, messages, videos, browser favorites, system settings and call log.
All these data are saved online, on protected servers that guarantee the recovery of backups and their restoration on the mobile phone.
The free account comes with a 10 GB available space which is more than enough if used only for the address book, messages and call log .
If you lose the data on the phone or the phone itself, you can easily restore the data in any Android phone using the application, connecting with the same registered account.
GCloud works in the background making automatic, scheduled and incremental backups when the mobile phone is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi and when it is in charging mode so as not to consume battery (this however can be changed).
If instead you want to save SMS on PC, you can use those programs to manage Android from PC and transfer data, already reported in another article, among which we can remember above all MyPhone Explorer.
