Follow non-friends on Facebook with the "Follow" button

On Facebook there are two main ways to keep in touch with people:
The first is that of the personal profile which should be used to keep in touch with friends and family and therefore to exchange photos, messages and game results. To read what is published privately (and not publicly) on the profile bulletin board, you must be friends with that person and there must be mutual consent.
The second way instead is to open a Facebook page where you can publish blog posts, professional initiatives or news related to the theme of the page. To follow these news and receive updates of a Facebok page just press the "Like" button at the top and become a fan of that page. The page administrator does not have to approve new subscribers who have pressed "Like".

It is therefore evident that a profile must remain personal also because the number of friends that can be added is limited while the page can also have a million or more fans registered.
A different function is that which allows you to follow a person on Facebook, without having to ask them for friendship. All that that public person can then read in his home. In other words, Facebook allows you to stay in touch with a person who is not a friend, therefore not added to the list of contacts, and receive in the news flow, all the published updates (photos, videos, texts etc.) that are visible to everyone as would be on a fan page.
Facebook, certainly inspired by Twitter, therefore gives you the opportunity to write publicly on your wall and let anyone (as long as they are registered on the social network) be able to read these updates (as long as they are not made private only to friends by that person) as if become a fan of that profile, without needing to be approved.
As mentioned a few weeks ago, Facebook updated by changing the privacy settings screen with the new control on the profile and tags . In the central part of the privacy settings page, you can decide whether to publish photos, links, status updates etc. with public visibility or only for friends or in a personalized way. What you can do now is set up your wall with " Friends only " privacy but let non-friends receive and read posts shared in a public way, readable by everyone.
To activate this option you need to open the Facebook Settings from the arrow down at the top right, then go to the " Public Posts " section. The first option on the right allows you to decide who can see our public posts, if only friends or if everyone. By putting Tutti, everyone is allowed to follow us as followers on Facebook . On our profile, when viewed by a non-friend, the "Follow " button will appear to receive our updates.
From the same settings section, you can also choose whether to let non-friends comment on news and public photos and whether to be notified when followed by a person.
You can therefore follow the profile pages of famous people, actors, politicians or commentators, without asking them for friendship (which is unlikely to be accepted), by subscribing as on Twitter . Public news will be readable on the Facebook home, where the news flow passes.
When you find a profile with the " Receive updates " button activated, you can choose whether to receive all, most or only important news in the stream without becoming a friend and without asking for authorizations or consents from this person. You can also select the type of news you want to read : referring to games, photos and videos or status updates.
Before adding the subscription button, better check which news and photos are publicly visible by pressing the button at the top right of your " View As " profile. You can have an unlimited number of subscribers to your profile, but you can subscribe to a maximum of 5, 000 profiles.
To try, you can go to my profile and press the button to follow my public updates.
