Amazon Echo: Alexa color meaning of the light ring

One of the distinctive features of Amazon Echo speakers is the light ring or, in the case of Echo Show screens, the light bar. These lights are not only aesthetic, but are used to give feedback to the user by coloring in different ways depending on the warning they want to convey. The most visible color is the blue one, which appears when it is called " Alexa ". When the light of an Echo's ring turns blue, it means that it is waiting for the voice command (any command that you try to give if the ring is not illuminated in blue, will not receive any response). Then when the light turns on the ring, it means that Alexa is processing the voice command.
It may happen, then, that that luminous ring lights up with other colors, which remain fixed or which rotate, and it is important to know its meaning. The luminous ring of a device with Alexa works, in fact, also as a status indicator and a notification light to signal the user with a warning or a situation to pay attention to.

Meaning of the colors of the ring of an Amazon Echo (Alexa)

Let's see in what colors the Echo ring can be illuminated and what it means when they are fixed and when the light rotates.
1) If the ring is off and colorless, it means that the device is connected and waiting for commands. If the ring is off and not working it simply means that the plug is unplugged. When she is on hold and her name is Alexa, the luminous ring becomes colored white and various shades of blue.
2) When the Echo's light ring is colored solid Blue, it means that Alexa is waiting to receive a command. It can be seen that when calling Alexa, a part of the bright blue ring is colored lighter ( cyan color ). That cyan color indicates the direction of the person speaking.
If the ring is colored solid blue with a cyan rotation after issuing a command, it means that Alexa is processing the request. This also happens when the speaker is turning on as soon as the plug is connected.
The alternation of blue and cyan means that Alexa is responding to a command or information.
3) The white color of the light ring appears when the volume keys are pressed and indicate the volume percentage. If when you try to raise or lower the volume, the ring is all white, it means that the volume is at maximum, while if it does not appear white or only a small part, it means that it is at minimum.
3 BIS) If the ring of the Echo is colored White which rotates, it means that the Alexa Guard function is active (that of the alarm, currently not activated in Italy).
4) Solid red color means that the Echo is disabled and is set to not answer and not to speak. To make the Echo ring light up red, you need to press the button that deactivates the microphone on the device itself.
5) If after giving a command to Alexa, Viola 's color ring, it means that Echo has a connection problem with the wifi network and is unable to process the request. Purple, therefore, is a momentary network problem that can occur if the network is not stable or if the wifi signal is weak.
Note, however, that if the Echo's light ring has a blue light that turns and ends with purple, it means that the Do Not Disturb function is active.
6) If the ring of the Amazon Echo is colored with an Orange rotation, it means that the device is connecting to the network.
7) Green light indicates that a voice call is coming, which can be answered. During a call, the Echo remains illuminated with a spinning green light.
8) If the Echo lights up in Yellow, it means that a message has arrived or that there is a notification. You can then tell Alexa " Read notifications " to find out what messages have been received or " cancel notifications " to remove the yellow color. Note that notifications can signal the arrival of parcels ordered with Amazon.
Unlike the Amazon Echo smart speakers, the Echo Show has a screen that actually says what's going on, but still uses bright signals that appear at the bottom of the screen in a thin band .
The colors of this Echo Show bar have the same meanings, except for small differences. For example, when you turn off the microphone on Echo Show, the camera is also turned off. The purple band indicating Do Not Disturb mode turns off after a few seconds leaving a crescent symbol in the upper right corner of the screen. The orange color indicates that the Echo Show has network connectivity problems.
