Features guide and tricks for Microsoft Edge in Windows 10

Let's talk now about Microsoft Edge, the browser that replaced Internet Explorer on Windows 10 and which, recent news, will be changed in 2019 when it will be based on Chromium thus abandoning its EdgeHTML rendering engine.
Edge will therefore also be available on Windows 7 and Mac computers and not only for Windows 10 as now.
To date, Edge, which can be launched from the icon with the blue e on the Windows 10 taskbar, is used very little by users, even if it is an excellent web browser, fast and light, full of interesting and comfortable functions all to try.
In this guide for Microsoft Edge we see how to configure it and all the tricks to use its features by discovering how simple it is and how different it is from other browsers, even better than Chrome and Firefox for some features included.

1) Edge interface
The Edge home page, which can always be called from the button with a small house icon, is dynamic and opens the news of the day taken from various Microsoft News sources.
At the top right next to the address bar there are 4 buttons: The one to open the favorites, the one to open a clipboard editor on the open site, the one to share the page on the Windows 10 apps and settings.
To these can be added, in the settings, the buttons of the extensions, the history, Downloads and reading list .
At the top left there are two curious buttons, one to put the open tabs aside, the other to see the tabs set aside (we talk about it in point 3).
At the top, where there are tabs, in addition to the + to open a new tab there is a button with down arrow that opens the preview of the open tabs .
On the address bar, on the right side, you can add a site to your favorites and you can add a page of blogs or news sites to the reading list, to be able to read it in a book format, with several other options of which we speak at point 5.
Searches are done from the bar in the center of the home page or from the address bar, where the default search engine is Microsoft Bing (but you can change it in Google in the settings).
2) Initial card
The scehda Home, the initial one, contains the icons of the most visited sites and then the news of the day.
You can customize the Edge home page by pressing the gear button, next to the word hide feed .
You can then hide the news or even have a blank page without the most visited sites.
In the news section you can also choose to see the weather and sports news.

3) Card management
If you right-click on the title of a tab at the top, you can find different options, including the option to mute the sound, duplicate the tab, open it in a new window or fix it.
At the top left you can also press the button that puts the cards aside, which means making them disappear from view, but with the possibility of being able to recall and review them when you want by pressing the leftmost button.
This is a very useful function for those who open many tabs together, to tidy up and to create different sessions.
4) Add notes button
The pencil button at the top right opens a really complete editor to write on the web page view, draw on it and cut it out or save it as an image.
5) Reading list
When you open a web page with text like this guide, you can press the button at the top of the reading list to open it in a completely different graphic that looks like a book.
In this format, you can press the button to read the content of the page verbally, a really handy trick for those who do not see us well or for those who do not want to read but listen.
You can also select the text to be read and right-click on it to hear only the selected sentences.
While reading, you can press the little man key on the top play bar to change the reading settings.
In the reading list mode there is also a learning tools button, to be able to use a highlighter on the text, to enlarge spaces and improve reading, use grammar or immersive reading tools and to print.
6) Edge Options menu
Pressing the button with three dots in the upper right corner opens the Edge browser options.
From here there are the buttons for private browsing, the history, the favorites and then the voice reading functions, the choice of buttons for the toolbar at the top and the button to add the page to the Windows tool bar. .
In " Other tools ", you will find the button to open Internet Explorer, the one to transmit the videos of the page on an external device (must be a Miracast receiver configured in Windows 10), the one to take notes on the page, to share and to open the developer console.
From the Options, the Edge settings can be opened.
7) Edge settings
The settings are divided into 4 sections: General, Privacy, Password and Advanced .
In Generali you can choose whether or not to see the favorites bar, whether to use the dark mode, whether to open the new tab at startup or the last site opened, the download location, the home page button, the tool to import and export your favorites from Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox or to save them in a text file.
Here there is also the option to synchronize settings and favorites in a Microsoft account, the one used for Windows 10, in order to also find the favorites in Edge on Android or iPhone.
In Privacy and Security there are the keys to clear the cache, clear the history, activate the protection from data tracking, activate the smartscreen protection filter against dangerous downloads, activate the popup blocker .
In Password, there is the option to save passwords and to automatically fill in forms.
In Advanced, you can activate or deactivate the Flash Player, use apps instead of sites when available (such as Maps), configure the proxy, allow automatic playback of video and audio on websites and change the default search engine to choose Google instead of Bing .
8) Extensions
In August 2016, extensions for Microsoft Edge were added by Microsoft, which are many but far fewer than Chrome and Firefox.
In 2019, when Edge will become based on Chromium, it will be possible to install the extensions of the Chrome Web Store thus balancing the account (even if Google with this wins the game of browsers in a total way).
In conclusion, Microsoft Edge is a simple and immediate browser, without too many complicated options, with special additions such as the reading list, the tool for taking notes and the one for drawing on web pages.
Microsoft Edge is therefore an excellent browser that can be used instead of Chrome and Firefox if you have no particular needs.
