IOS 11 update on iPhone and iPad: what changes and what it can do again

As every year in September, the day of the update of iOS arrives, the operating system of the iPhone and iPad.
At 19 today on all Apple smartphones in the world it is possible to update iOS 10 to iOS11, the new version of 2017 that will already be included on the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X models.
iOS 11 can be installed on:
- iPhone 5S, iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and 6S (also Plus), iPhone 7 and 7 Plus ;
- iPad Air and Air 2, iPad Mini 2, 3 and 4, all iPad Pro, iPad 5th generation and iPad 2017 ;
- iPod touch 6th generation.
To download and install the iOS 11 update on iPhone, iPad and iPod, all you have to do is go to Settings> General> Software Update and follow the installation wizard which takes about 10 minutes and requires that the device is being charged ( so as not to risk sudden shutdowns).
Also, before updating, it is important to make sure that you have at least 2.5 GB free in the iPhone memory.
In this regard, I remember the most effective tricks to recover space on the iPhone without losing anything, quickly.

With iOS 11, iPhones and even iPads acquire new functions, options and features previously absent as well as several improvements to existing functions and performance optimizations.
For wanting to make a summary, let's see here what changes with iOS 11 and what can be done again that could not be done before .
1) Faster initial startup
The initial configuration process of a new iPhopne or after a factory reset has been simplified in iOS 11 with the arrival of an automatic setup option.
If you have another updated iPhone, you can keep it close to the new device to synchronize preferences, passwords, iCloud settings and other things.
2) Improve the function to find apps
The App Store gets a renewal with iOS 11, with a new layout, with a separate tab where to find the games and lists of recommended themed apps.
3) Make translations and listen to music with Siri
Siri can now make translations in iOS 11 by saying: how do you say: in .
Siri also starts the music by telling him to play something.
4) Write requests to Siri
For those who have problems making themselves understood by Siri, there is an option in the settings> general> Accessibility> Siri that allows you to activate written requests and not just by voice.
5) Play with augmented reality
iOS11 optimizes augmented reality applications on the iPhone, i.e. those (like Pokemon GO), where it interacts with the surrounding environment by framing it with the camera.
6) Live photos improved
The update of live photos allows you to transform mini video clips into loop videos that bounce back and forth like on Instagram.
There are also new options in the Photos app screen, when opening a live photo.
7) News Camera and Photos
The Camera and Photos apps in iOS 11 have improved with new filters to be used to edit the photos taken.
8) Scan QR codes with the camera
The camera has some minor improvements, including one for scanning QR codes without having to use external apps.
9) Pay friends through a message
If you use Apple Pay and iMessage, you can send payments to friends via messages (this function is to be checked if it is activated in Italy).
10) Use the keyboard with one hand
With version 11 of the iOS system on the iPhone it is possible to use the one-handed writing mode, with the smaller keyboard moved to the side.
To activate this mode, hold down the Emoji key and choose the desired keyboard layout.
11) Improvements in screenshots
When you take a screenshot of the screen on the iPhone, a thumbnail appears in the lower left corner.
If this is ignored, it disappears after a while, if it is touched an editor opens to add text or draw on the image.
12) Apple Maps improves
Improvements in Apple Maps include lane guidance and maps within shopping malls and airports (Google Maps, even significantly better, has had these functions for some time).
13) Find relevant news
The News application built into iOS suggests the news that can be of interest based on what we like to read usually.
Even for Apple News there is a clear gap compared to the new Google Feed, much more powerful and customizable.
14) Access multiple settings simultaneously
One of the visual changes that can be seen in the new Control Center is that the controls can be customized.
This can be done in Settings> Control Center .
15) Record the screen
Recording screen activity in iOS is easier than ever in the latest version: you have to press the Screen Recording button in the panel to customize the control center to start recording a video that is saved in the Camera Roll.
16) Focus on driving
iOS 11 automatically activates the phone's "do not disturb" mode when driving.
This option can be activated in the settings.
17) Manage notifications faster
The Notification Center and lock screen are now linked more closely.
You can scroll down to view the oldest notifications in a list, scroll an alert to the right to open the app that generated it, or go left to view or clear the notification.
18) Find files more easily
The File application in iOS 11 allows you to browse the files stored in iCloud, those on the local device and also in external apps such as Dropbox, all through a simple interface.
Finally also the iPhone and the iPad have an explorer worthy of that of a computer.
19) Share music
In Apple Music, you can now create a profile (only if you are paying for your subscription) to more easily share recently played songs and musical tastes with friends.
20) Type faster on iPad
With an iPad iOS 11 the keyboard writes faster because just scroll down on one of the letters to see all the characters that can be written, including numbers and symbols.
This avoids having to switch between the keyboard of letters and that of numbers and symbols.
21) Scan and sign documents on iPad
The new document scanner in the Notes app in iOS 11 for iPad is capable of scanning a document using the camera.
You can also add a signature to your document using your finger or an Apple Pen stylus
22) Apple Pen updates
Those who have one of the expensive Apple Pen can now write freehand on iPad with iOS 11 over PDF, over images and taking notes.
23) Drag and drop items onto iPad
The ability to multitask and switch from one app to another on iPad is much improved with iOS 11, thanks to the possibility of dragging highlighted text, images and files from one application to another when working in split screen ( a bit like it has always been done on Windows).
24) New dock on iPad
the Ipad becomes more like a Mac now, with an application dock bar located at the bottom of the screen, to be used to launch applications, switch between apps and change the arrangement of windows.
In conclusion
iOS 11 is a download that everyone should do immediately and although some advise to wait to see if there are bugs, at the moment it is absolutely stable and the fear that the iPhone or iPad may become slower and that it is absolutely not justified the battery will run out sooner after updating.
iOS 11 is also provided for free on iPhone 5S three years ago and provides a nice upgrade and significant improvements especially on iPad.
Not installing iOS 11 would be a harmful choice, not only because you give up renewing your Apple device, but above all because you will remain so vulnerable to malware and exploits that are discovered every day.
