Without making big announcements Whatsapp has added a new function to its instant messaging application that allows everyone to know when a message has been read by the recipient. It will therefore no longer be possible to bluff and say that you have not read a message, because the person who sent it will receive a notification when it is read on the application.
On the Whatsapp app for Android smartphones, Windows Phone and iPhone, when a message has been seen and read, a double blue av sign appears next to it .
The double blue av sign indicates that that message was actually not only received, but actually read on the application.

So in summary on Whatsapp, next to each message, we have: A v sign indicates that the message has been sent
The double sign vv indicates that the message has been received, but not that it has been read.
The double vv sign in blue indicates that it has been read.
If you touch a message with a blue sign and hold it down, you can then press an icon with the i to know the information on that message and, precisely, the time it was received or delivered and the time it was read .
Of course you can still read a part of a message on the notification bar, without therefore opening the application, and not letting the other part of the conversation appear the blue notification.
As seen in the guide to group notifications in Whatsapp, the blue notification also appears in group chats if everyone reads the message; otherwise you can touch on your message, hold down, press on ie and see who has read it.
UPDATE: You can disable the read notification on Whatsapp
If you want to keep the option to see the blue ticks, but do not want to show the read notification to others, there seems to be no way to block these read receipts from the messages that turn blue even if you ask to hide the time of access to Whatsapp in the privacy settings of the application.
The only way to hide the sign displayed to those who send us a message then becomes to open WhatsApp without entering the conversation, only in this case, in fact, the double tick turns blue.
To not let people know that a message has been read, you can also, after having received it, but before opening the conversation in Whatsapp, put Airplane mode on your smartphone.
The other blue double check mark of the message does not appear even if you read that Whatsapp via the widget on Android.
