Log out of Messenger or stay offline on Facebook chat

Since Facebook decided to force the use of Facebook Messenger by removing the ability to chat and send private messages to friends from the normal app, we have been forced to keep this extra application, which certainly has important functions (see guide in Facebook Messenger ), but which always remains active by consuming battery and memory heavily.
The problem with Facebook Messenger is that once installed, it always stays online and there is no option to disconnect it.
It also makes us stay online on the chat, always being available to friends who can then write to us at any time, even the least appropriate.
Fortunately, you can do is close the Messenger and exit the chat to not stay online on iPhone and Android smartphones .
Speaking of Android, for starters, you can remove Messenger from the recent apps list.
Touch the " recent applications " button (usually the one with the double rectangle at the bottom left or right), keep your finger pressed on the Messenger thumbnail until the option to remove it appears or, simply, swipe it to the right or left to close it .
Press on the Home button to return to the main screen, open the Phone Settings and tap on Apps .
From the list of downloaded apps, search for Messenger, tap on End and then on Clear data and clear cache (in Android 6 they are under Memory ).
At this moment we have left Messenger which no longer has the necessary data to recognize our Facebook account.
Chat is disabled as if the application was uninstalled.
The time you want to text someone on Facebook from your mobile phone you can open Messenger and log in, without having to enter any password (so be careful that if a friend takes our phone he can open Messenger and chat with our account or read our messages) .
If you wanted the password request, you would have to exit the Facebook app.
Alternatively, you can exit Messenger on Android using the same method that you use on iPhone, from the main Facebook app.
On iPhone and iPad you have to use another way to disconnect from Facebook Messenger and exit the chat.
It is necessary to open the normal Facebook app, tap on the button with three lines at the bottom to open the account settings.
From the Account Settings, open the Security section and then open the active Sessions management page.
Facebook Messenger sessions should appear in the list, which can be closed by pressing the X on the side.
If in doubt, all active sessions except the current one can be closed.
On both iPhone and Android you can leave the Facebook Messenger chat active, but stay offline, so that friends do not see us online.
To do this, open the Messenger application and go to the third tab, the one that lists people online.
Tap on Activate and turn off the switch next to our name.
This is a passive way of using Messenger, still receiving messages, but being offline to others and without being able to see who is online.
As seen, it is also possible to disable Facebook Messenger notifications that are often very annoying, especially on Android.
