Who owns a Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone such as a Nokia Lumia can manage it from a Windows PC using an application provided by Microsoft itself, called " Project the screen ". It is a free program that, once started, recognizes the Windows Phone connected via USB cable to the computer .
The program works on Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10 PCs and requires a Windows Phone 8.1 or higher smartphone.
On some Nokia Lumia models (including the 630, 635, 636, 638, 730, 735, 830, 930, 1520 series) it is possible to use the program to view the phone screen on the computer even wirelessly, without the need for USB cable.
In order for the Project the screen program to work, you must first download and install it, connect the Windows Phone mobile phone to the PC via USB cable or enable wifi on the supported models and a message should appear on the phone asking to authorize the program.
If it does not appear, open the settings in the phone's Apps list and activate the " project the screen " option.
At the end a window will appear showing, streaming, the mobile phone screen to be able to use it from the computer, using the mouse and keyboard.
On the phone, under the settings of " project the screen ", you can enter the "Advanced" options to customize the connection.
You can control the orientation of the screen, activate or deactivate the contact options and set the color of the touch point.
On the PC you can switch from full screen to window mode by pressing the "F" key.
If you use this feature a lot, you can put, on Windows Phone, a quick link to project the screen, in the setting related to notifications and actions.
Note that Microsoft has added on its latest Nokia Lumia also the ability to view the phone screen and all its applications, including those to see photos, on the TV to which any Miracast device is connected.
Unfortunately Windows Phone does not work with Chromecast, however, at least for now.
