Find emails to delete in Gmail

Google Mail Gmail was the first to offer a large space to store received emails and attachments, starting with one GB at the time when at most others offered 10 MB and forced users to download mail to their computers.
Today the space available in Gmail is 15 GB (to be used in communion with Google Drive) which is a lot, but it is not infinite especially if you use the Google Docs and Drive apps.
To check the space left in Gmail you can check this page and put the cursor over the pie chart.
If you have been using Gmail for many years and if the remaining space is running out, perhaps it is appropriate to delete Email from Gmail, those with larger attachments and older ones that it no longer makes sense to keep if not for remembering.

To begin with, as we have already learned to do in the past, you can download all Gmail emails or save the emails in a backup on your PC.
In this way, even if you cancel something important, you can always recover it.
After the backup, you can start by searching for older Email messages and Emails with heavy and large attachments.
To search for messages older than two years, for example, use the search field above and search for:
older_than: 24m
Or you can also use a more precise parameter like:
before: 03/18/2014
Which means finding emails received before March 18, 2014.
Be aware though that this type of search includes all messages sent and received.
If you only wanted to find old emails from your inbox, then the search is:
in: inbox older_than: 24m
Another type of effective search to delete all old messages from newsletters or commercial promotions that have never been read is as follows:
label: unread older_than: 24m
With this search we will find emails older than 24 months that have never been read and that, presumably, will not be read even in the future because they are not important.
Another important parameter for finding Email to be deleted in Gmail is the size of attachments to messages.
For example, to delete all messages with attachments larger than 20 MB, use the search:
larger: 20mb
To eliminate big emails you can also use an absolutely safe Chrome extension called find big mail, which I had already talked about in the article on how to free up space in Gmail, Google Drive and Photos.
A very effective way to quickly locate a certain type of messages to be deleted in Gmail is to use the filter.
For example, if there is a Ryanair promotional message or a Facebook or Twitter notification, select the message, then press the More button at the top and click on Filter messages of this type and then on the search button.
Whatever the search done, to delete all the emails found in Gmail, select all the messages by pressing the first selection square at the top.
This however is not enough because it selects only those visible on the page which are 50.
In the middle of the page you can read: All 50 conversations on this page are selected and a link that says " Select all conversations that match your search ".
If you want to delete everything, click on this link and then on the Delete button.
The messages will end up in the Trash folder and will not be permanently deleted before 30 days, unless you empty the recycle bin manually.
The trash can be found from the menu on the left or by going to this address //mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#trash .
