Making speed comparisons between programs is always interesting and fun, also because everyone has his or her preference, but, probably, he can be pushed to change habits based on the results. As seen, in Windows 10 there is the Edge browser to be the master, Firefox continues to improve every month with new technologies for Javascript and to decrease the use of memory, while Chrome, which also is updated every month with a new version, aims at improving speed as well as making special functions available.
In addition to the three most used browsers, the excellent Opera, the niche outsider, must also be considered.
Let's find out the speed of the browsers in the various usage scenarios used for the tests, so that you can adequately choose your default browser.
NOTE : the test results may change according to the type of hardware or software available on the test PC, therefore we take the results as empirical and not as "perfect science" since different values may appear on each PC.

This simple tool allows you to test the ability of browsers in the execution of web applications, displaying various types of pages and HTML content, showing after a few minutes an indicator on the performance of the browser in question.
After launching this tool on all the browsers we have decided to test, here are the results (higher value is better):
- Opera : 48.5
- Google Chrome : 32.3
- Microsoft Edge : 31.6
- Mozilla Firefox : 22.9
The fastest in the tests carried out is Opera, with a very high score, closely followed by Google Chrome and Edge, which mark a good reference value regarding performance.
Loses many points for posting Mozilla Firefox, which stops at only 22.9 and is the slowest browser among those tried with this test.
Browser speed test via JetStream
Another test we can perform is JetStream, which measures the performance of various browsers in the execution of JavaScript and other elements of code widely used in the construction of modern sites.

After launching this test on all browsers, here are the results below (higher value is better):
- Microsoft Edge : 154.81
- Mozilla Firefox : 126.57
- Opera : 121.83
- Google Chrome : 121.36
Edge takes the lead in this test, followed by a great Firefox. While the result of Opera is sufficient, Google Chrome highlights some limitations in managing JavaScript, once the strong point of this browser.
Browser speed test via ARES
ARES is another convenient browser test where we can test their ability to execute various types of codes (HTML and JavaScript) and Web applications.

The results for the browsers that we have indicated for this guide are shown below (lower value is better):
- Google Chrome : 44.20
- Opera : 43.25
- Mozilla Firefox : 96.76
- Microsoft Edge : 142.58
Here Google Chrome dominates the test, closely followed by Opera.
Mozilla Firefox but especially Microsoft Edge, which have decidedly high values compared to other browsers, disappoint.
Browser speed test via MotionMark
The last test we can perform to verify the real performance of the browsers in question is MotionMark, reachable from the link present here -> MotionMark .
This test tests the graphic capabilities of individual browsers for example when we open a video, multimedia content or web application with 3D capabilities.

- Microsoft Edge : 280.96
- Google Chrome : 240.12
- Work : 185.20
- Mozilla Firefox : 114.22
In this test, Microsoft Edge stands out, with Google Chrome achieving an excellent result.
Opera is doing well, while stealing what Firefox is with only 114 points.
Browser speed test via Dromaeo
Another test that we will carry out is through the Dromaeo website, which evaluates some important aspects of navigation such as loading CSS elements, JavaScript, 3D processing and running some test pages, so as to obtain a test as truthful as possible.

The results for the browsers in this guide are available below (the higher the better).
- Work : 1187.73
- Google Chrome : 1146.44
- Mozilla Firefox : 1062.52
- Microsoft Edge : 656.80
With this test, the fastest browser was Opera, followed by Google Chrome; good average placement for Firefox, while Edge slips to last position with only 656 points.
Conclusions
After carefully analyzing the results of these tests, we can get an idea of the real performance of the various browsers that can be installed on Windows 10.
Microsoft Edge wins the 3D and JetStream performance tests, while in the other tests it occupies the last positions.
Google Chrome wins the ARES test and ranks very well in the other tests (excluding JetStream where it is last).
Mozilla Firefox performs fairly well in almost all tests, occupying intermediate positions with the exception of the 3D test where it is last.
To great surprise Opera is certainly one of the best since it wins the Speedometer test and places itself in intermediate positions (often in second position) in all the other tests, without ever being last classified, to testify the goodness of this browser little used by the great public but able to offer truly enviable performances.
But we come to the question that all users ask themselves: which browser should we adopt?
Much depends on what we have to do with it: if we love to use many extensions Chrome and Firefox are still unbeatable, if we want the pure speed of loading Opera is a notch above the others, if we are looking for a browser well integrated with the Windows environment, Edge it's really the best browser, especially if we intend to play 3D content (for example Netflix runs at 1080p only on Edge).
