Keep your Facebook profile private by preventing the journal from being public

Staying on Facebook is almost mandatory if you don't want to be cut off from certain rounds of friendships and, above all, to access most web applications.
Common opinion is that to stay on Facebook you have to sacrifice something from the point of view of privacy, unless you decide to subscribe without participating in any discussion, without ever clicking on "Like", without ever posting anything.
Participating in online life on Facebook and having a lived and detailed diary of information is not so incompatible with keeping the profile private to the public, acquaintances and less important friends .
The important thing is to manage the privacy settings in a personalized way and, above all, to be careful not to share things that can discover vulnerabilities or private facts that can be used against us.

First of all it is important to set up your Facebook profile clearly, if it is private or if it wants to be used as a professional promotion .
The decision is very important because it is one thing to publish family photos, parties with friends or holidays and discuss football with friends, another thing is to advertise your profession, show what you do at work or talk about politics.
Unless you are extremely careful, private and professional life should be separated on Facebook.
One way to do it without creating 2 or 3 different profiles is to create separate friends lists and pay attention, whenever you publish something, to whom to show the update or the photo.
Complaining about your job, salary, boss, long business trip, office or the fact that you would like to sleep in the morning on Facebook is really not recommended and not recommended.
In some cases it is true that professional activities can also be enjoyed by friends, the opposite may not be true, that is, private activities may please colleagues, customers or bosses.
However, it is always to be avoided to share interesting job offers, salary increases, important opportunities and also to tell friends how beautiful our job is and how important we feel, because bragging is never a nice thing.
Making Facebook's diary private therefore does not mean preventing everyone from seeing profile information and updates, but preventing it from being publicly visible .
The important thing therefore is to adjust the visibility settings so that there is no public and visible information, that is, even to non-friends.
Then click on the gear button to enter the Privacy and tools settings page which is much easier to understand and use than in the past.
There are only two options to be changed:
- Choose Friends or a personalized list in the option Who can see future posts .
- Limit the audience of past posts to avoid being public.
In this way, both the past posts and those that will be written from now on will not be publicly visible (even if you can choose public visibility manually from the Activity Log).
From the left column, go to the options regarding the diary and the addition of tags .
From here you can activate the control of posts where you are tagged by friends to prevent information or photos about us from being published without us knowing it.
In the section on "Who can see the things that are in my diary" you can check what others see in our diary and, therefore, check what appears to the public.
Below, however, you can activate the control of the tags added by people to our posts.
The control over the tags, as already explained, allows you to prevent photos or posts written in our diary from appearing automatically.
This means that if you are tagged in a photo, you will need to approve, in the activity log (button on the profile page), the photos to see them appear in the diary and also see them in the list of personal photos.
All the ignored photos will, in the long run, be forgotten, as if they did not exist and it will be almost impossible to recover or review them if they refuse to approve the tag and add it to the diary.

The whole question of friend lists can also be found in profile information .
In a specific guide we have already seen how to Hide "Like" and personal information on the Facebook diary .
But keeping information private doesn't mean hiding it, but setting any custom level of visibility that is different from " Public ".
Then go to the main Facebook profile page, click on the Information button located under the profile image to change the privacy level of each data entered.
It is therefore not wrong to mark the phone number or the sentimental situation, the important thing is to keep it private for yourself or for a few trusted friends.
Another type of private information can become publicly available in the diary and profile if external applications are used.
It is therefore important to return to the privacy settings, to the Applications section, and press the Modify button for each application used and installed, changing its visibility from Public to Friends or Just Me .
At the bottom of the page, in addition to the applications used by others that it would be good to limit, there is an important option if you use Facebook from a mobile phone.
In fact, you can check that things put online using older versions of Facebook for mobile phones are public.
As for external applications, likes and Facebook plugins found on external sites, there is also an option that can be defined as " nuclear " or definitive .
Although it is possible to control the visibility of usage data of the individual apps, it is possible to completely disable the Faceboo k platform and therefore prevent any information from being shared with external applications or websites.
From the application settings page, by clicking on the first option where it says " Do you want to use plugins, facebook, games etc on Facebook or elsewhere"> In this way, however, you will no longer be able to access websites or applications that use the Facebook accounts and friends will no longer be able to share information through applications.
Obviously the Facebook profile will remain active and functional, but will not be integrated with the external web.
