Print multiple pages on single sheet or duplex

When we print any document written with Word or Web pages on the computer, we believe that it is always necessary to install additional programs in order to take advantage of all the printing features.
In reality with Windows 10 we will have everything necessary to be able to generate PDFs from the documents we intend to print, we can save the document on a single sheet, print on both sides of the sheet (Front back) or add multiple pages to a single sheet, so as to being able to manage your prints professionally, excluding the pages you don't need.
We find out in this guide how to manage prints on PC with Windows 10, the most modern and practical operating system to get the most out of any printer, and also from Windows 7.
At the end of the guide we will be able to carry out most of the operations necessary to manage the printer without using other programs.

1) How to add printers on Windows 10
If we want to print on real sheets, we will first have to add our printer to the operating system.
For most modern printers Windows 10 is able to recover the necessary driver on its own, so as to avoid inserting the installation CD or to retrieve the drivers from the Internet, looking like crazy on the manufacturer's website.
All we have to do is turn on the printer, make sure it is connected to the PC (via USB) or to the home network (via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi), then click on the bottom left on the Start button and type Printers, so as to to be able to open the item Printers and scanners ; from this new window we click the Add a printer or scanner button .

The search for compatible printers connected to the PC or present as a network drive will start immediately; as soon as our printer appears, we click the Add device button to start searching for the driver and adding it to the operating system.
The procedure can take a few minutes, so let's get comfortable and wait for the addition of the unit (it will be added to the compatible printers in the list below).
At the end we will be ready for printer!
If we encounter problems or difficulties in printing after adding the printer in this way, we recommend using the software from the printer or the manufacturer, so that we can use a more appropriate driver.

2) How to print in PDF
One of the most appreciated features in Windows 10 is the ability to take advantage of a virtual printer, capable of generating PDF documents.
In this way we will be able to print Web pages or any other document on the Internet immediately in a convenient digital format to share.
To take advantage of this printer, simply open the print mode on the program in use or on the browser (usually by pressing CTRL + P or by opening the File menu and clicking Print ).
In the preview window, all we have to do is change the printer, taking care to select Microsoft Print to PDF among those available.

Once this printer is selected, we adjust the other print items in the interface, then click Print .
Immediately the operating system will make us choose the path in which to save the file and the name to assign them; at the end we will have a nice PDF file of the page visited or of the document we were working on, ready to be shared or stored on the PC.
If the integrated PDF printer does not work well, we can always install the free PDF virtual printer offered by PDF24 Creator .

3) Print single sheet or multiple sheets
The simplest printing is done on a single sheet, so as to have a certain number of sheets based on the document to be printed (we can also print a single page or a set of pages).
We open the document in question or the Web page, then we click on the item Print (or we press CTRL + P); select the printer added to the system, then choose between the various settings whether to print all the pages, whether to print a single page or whether to print a precise set of pages (for example from page 3 to page 5).

We choose the other settings and finally click on Print to start the process.
4) Print with both sides and multiple pages on one sheet
We want to save paper by printing documents on both sides of the sheet ">
We select the printer we intend to use, then we click Preferences ;
if our printer supports duplex, it will be available as an advanced option in the tree list that will appear in the window.

Just indicate if we want the print to be made on the long or short side, then confirm with OK and proceed with printing.
From the same menu we can also decide whether to print multiple pages on the same sheet; all we have to do is change the item Pages per sheet, present under the Page format section.

At the moment it is possible to print up to 16 pages on a single sheet, so as to save a lot of paper and ink for longer documents (obviously we recommend using paper sizes larger than the simple A4, otherwise it will be all too small to be read clearly).
5) Program to print multiple pages on one sheet
The free iPrint program for Windows 7 is an excellent tool to manage basic level prints, so that you can print multiple pages on one sheet and excluding the pages that you don't need.
It is true that almost all printers have their own print management program, however iPrint is faster and clearer to use and can be downloaded for free.
After installation, therefore, going to print any Word document or PDF file, you can choose iPrint and start the print management program.
From the initial interface you can see a preview of the document you want to print and you can click on the pages to exclude them from the printing process.
Very quickly you can immediately choose whether to print 2 or 4 pages on a single sheet and you can also select which page to print in a very long text file, with a speed never seen before.
Without counting the page numbers, giving intervals and manual selections as you do with the standard Windows tool, you can choose the sheets to be printed with a click, eliminating unnecessary ones.
With iPrint, which works with any type of printable file, you can also decide the margins of the sheets, the paper size (A4 or other) and the orientation whether vertical or horizontal.
When blank pages are detected, they are ignored in the printout.
This program is different from Simple Imposition which requires printing booklets and brochures two pages per sheet.
In this case, iPrint makes print management easier and faster and also facilitates paper savings.
