Dispose of lithium batteries from smartphones and laptops

Lithium batteries in smartphones, rechargeable lithium batteries for console controllers and laptop batteries deteriorate over time, decreasing the level of charge that can be used. When the battery no longer holds the charge (it turns off immediately after charging or jumps to 100% to 10% in a few minutes), we will have to replace it with a new one to continue using the device. But what to do with the old lithium battery ">
In many municipalities there are also specific collectors for batteries on some roads, so that all types of batteries and batteries can always be disposed of correctly. If we cannot find any type of battery collector, please contact our municipality or the local hygiene office, so that we can discover the collection points or the ecological islands where it is possible to take all types of special waste.
Note : Most modern smartphones have a non-user removable battery. In this case, the exhausted lithium batteries will be disposed of directly by the assistance center or by the authorized technician to whom we contacted for the replacement of the exhausted battery with the new one.

Lithium batteries for notebooks or other devices (video cameras, cameras etc.)

Batteries for notebooks or other electronic devices with accumulation of charge are usually too large to fit inside the battery collectors: we will therefore have to dispose of them directly at the ecological island or at the separate collection center closest to our municipality.

Once you arrive at the ecological island, there is usually a bin dedicated to the collection of spent batteries, large enough to accommodate all types of lithium batteries (even the smallest ones). So if we have an accumulation of batteries and batteries to be thrown away, it is better to go directly to the ecological island and throw everything together in one trip.
If we can't find an ecological island, we can ask for information from our municipality, the local hygiene office or ask Google Maps for help, the most used map service in the world that can also show ecological islands and separate collection centers. available nearby or in the province. All we have to do is open the Google Maps site or one of the specific apps for Android and iOS and start a search with the words "ecological island", "waste collection center" or "separate collection center".

Alternatively we can open the Play Store (on Android) or the App Store (on iPhone and iPad) and start searching for the app of the waste management company in our municipality (or the app of a municipal company), so as to obtain all the information on the correct disposal of batteries and spent batteries, as well as show you the address of the nearest ecological island.
Note : just like for smartphones, on many modern notebooks the lithium battery is not removable by the user, being integrated into the body of the device. In the event of an exhausted battery or one that no longer holds the charge, we will have to deliver the laptop to a specialized technician or to an authorized service center, which will replace the old battery and dispose of it regularly.

Conclusions

Separate collection is a civic duty that all citizens should apply, even more so when we have special waste in our hands such as lithium batteries for smartphones and laptops. So let's avoid throwing them in the bin of undifferentiated or worse still in the street or in some illegal dump! The ways to dispose of them regularly exist and are at hand, just find the right place based on the size of the batteries or batteries (if small, the small bin of exhausted batteries present practically everywhere will be enough).
If the lithium battery of our smartphone or laptop is discharged immediately, before throwing it away we try to carry out a calibration, so as to recover a little autonomy and extend its life. We have made some excellent guides in this regard that will allow us to calibrate the battery of the portable PC, calibrate the battery of an iPhone or iPad or to calibrate the battery of an Android device . In another guide we have instead seen how to increase the autonomy of the battery on mobile phones and smartphones, so as to be able to optimize the residual charge before it runs out completely.
