Shadowgun War Games shooter 5 over 5 similar to Overwatch, on Android and iPhone

One of the best games released in 2020 for Android and iPhone smartphones is, surely, Shadowgun War Games, released in February and presented as the mobile alternative of OverWatch, the popular shooter game. Like Overwatch, Shadowgun War Games is a team-based, first-person shooter with five-on-five battles, very fun, simple, without violence. Those who have already played a game in the Shadowgun series will appreciate the fluidity of the controls and the graphics worthy of the best console shooter games.
In Shadowgun War Games, you start by choosing the character and after a short tutorial you immediately start an online game with other real players.
The controls are really well designed to play a shooter on the smartphone: moving the finger on the left side, the player's feet move forward and backward and every direction while moving the finger on the right side of the screen turns the view to look in directions different. There is no button to fire, the machine gun fires automatically when an opposing player is targeted. Other keys on the screen allow you to use special skills such as throwing a grenade or medical kit to heal yourself. After each use, there is a reload timer that shows when the ability is available again. In the other on the right, however, there is the button for choosing weapons and the button for reloading.
Shadowgun War Games does not stray too far from the now proven formulas of FPS games on smartphones and it is possible to go to the game settings to change the target, shooting and fire mode sensitivity that can switch from simple to other modes.
As for the learning curve, there is not much to learn and it only improves with practice, playing more games to level up and get more bonuses and upgrades.
Where the game starts to differ from other multiplayer shooters are the characters, the health of the characters and the duration of the weapon fights . Each character (there are five so far) has its own skill set and weapon load. Players have far more health (or deal much less damage) than other modern FPS titles. This feature leads to longer battles where you don't immediately die on the first try and where you don't need to move and frantically escape from the most critical situations.
It therefore becomes a little different from games like Call Of Duty where you just die, but more like old games like Halo and Overwatch. Just from the latter, and even more to the unforgettable Team Fortress 2 (from which Overwatch has copied dynamics and characters), it seems to have taken inspiration from Shadowgun War Games, with nice warriors to see, limited battlefields and longer clashes. Furthermore, at least from what I have been able to see (and from the first levels), the payments within the game do not affect competitiveness, especially limited to personalization such as stickers, animations, skins and other such things.
Shadowgun War Games is focused on character choice and there are five to choose from:
  • Sara with the supporting role. Skills include healing explosive grenade that helps regenerate allies' health and bubble shield for protection. His weapon selection and speed are standard, as is his health. Sara seems a little difficult to play since she has no offensive skills. However, it can keep people alive longer in a gunfight and make even a small contribution.
  • Jet is the fast-paced and combative character, with a shotgun, ability to become invisible to escape or sneak. His other ability allows him to jump forward instantly. However, Jet has fewer armor than most characters and his health fairly quickly.
  • Revenant is the big, slow but resistant, with skills to do more damage, move faster and confuse nearby fighters.
  • Willow is the sniper and has perhaps the most powerful weapon in the game. Her abilities allow her to add damage to her already powerful blows and to put mines to detonate anyone who tries to chase her.
  • Slade is the standard soldier of the game, he launches grenades, he is fast, he has a nice load of weapons and he is the best character to start and learn.

Shadowgun War Games is, therefore, a nice old-fashioned shooter game, simple and not too demanding, but very fun. Released from a week on the Stores, it is not yet present in the most downloaded rankings, although it is easy to predict it will be soon.
You can download Shadowgun War Games for free, on iPhone and on Android smartphones and tablets.
