If 3G or 4G cellular data connection does not work (Android)

As with PCs, smartphones can also have their problems connecting to the internet.
As we know, there are two ways to connect to the internet from an Android smartphone: via wifi or with the cellular data connection provided by the telephone operator with a subscription.
While in another article we saw what to do if the wifi on Android does not work and does not connect to the internet, on this occasion we see instead the possible solutions if the cellular data connection does not work and you can not surf the internet even if everything seems normal.
When the cellular data connection does not work, you will notice at the top of the screen of the Android smartphone near the clock that the 3G or 4G symbol or G or H + does not appear, even if the switch is on.
The reasons can be of various kinds and we go to see the most frequent ones that apply to any Android phone, be it Samsung, Huawei or other
1) More obvious solutions
If trying to activate the internet connection of the mobile phone cannot navigate, there may be an internal error that can be easily solved by restarting the phone.
In fact, there is an even easier way to awaken a blocked connection, that is, to set Airplane mode for at least 30 seconds, and then re-enable the network.
To get things right, it's a good idea to set Airplane mode, turn off the phone, wait a minute, turn it back on, and turn on mobile data.
2) Check that there is no problem with the operator
Before changing particular options on the phone, it is worth checking quickly if there is no temporary blackout for a problem with TIM, Fastweb, Tre, Wind, Vodafone etc.
For example, just a few days ago my cell phone did not connect to the internet and it was enough to go on Twitter to find out that many other people also had the same problem with TRE.
A search on Twitter can be enough to know if it is a problem only ours or a general one on which we can not help but wait.
If instead it is only our problem, before calling the call center operator for assistance, go ahead with the following possible solutions.
3) Check for a traffic limit
On Android there is an option that blocks the data connection if a certain limit is exceeded.
This option is not activated automatically, but it may have been activated in the past and was then forgotten.
Then go to Settings -> Data Usage and make sure that the traffic usage graph has not exceeded the set limit.
To be sure, disable the data network limit and try to connect.
4) Reset the names of APN access points
Access point names (APNs) are the network access parameters that are different for each mobile network operator.
These parameters are automatically received by the SIM card, but the configurations may have been lost for some reason.
To reset the APNs, go to Settings, then to Other (under the Wireless and networks section), Press on Cellular networks and then on Access point names .
From here you can check the APN set by touching it and check if the configuration is correct (comparing it with the official one that can be searched on the internet for each operator).
You can also reset the APNs by tapping the button with three dots in the upper right corner and pressing Restore default settings .
Also from this screen, you can add a new APN by pressing the + key and configuring it manually.
An updated list of Italian APNs (TIM, Vodafone, Fastweb, Tre, Wind etc.) can be found on the AndroidWord website
5) If internet data doesn't work overseas
The data connection abroad should work as in Italy only that, depending on the tariff plan, the cost is higher.
For top-ups, if the credit runs out, you can no longer surf the internet abroad.
In addition, for those with TRE, it may be that you are unable to browse and connect to the internet because there is a disabled option that allows you to connect even when roaming.
Then go to Settings> Other and activate Data Roaming .
6) If 4G doesn't work
In the event that the internet connection worked but never went to 4G even if we requested this type of connection from our operator there are two reasons: the phone is poorly configured, the phone does not support 4G.
In both cases, you can check that the phone can connect with a 4G connection by going to Android Settings > Other (under network connections), Cellular networks> Preferred network type and set 4G.
If it is not present, it means that that smartphone does not support 4G fast connections.
At this point, if nothing worked, the only thing to do is to call support to find out what happened.
