I had already talked about this problem that occurs in Windows when there is an error or when, due to a heavy program or a video game, the system can no longer find free memory. In practice, the desktop disappears, any open windows no longer respond or disappear too and, more seriously, the taskbar at the bottom also disappears .
In this situation, the only way to get back to work seems to be to restart the computer, while instead, as already explained, there are other solutions if Windows Explorer stops working and Windows freezes .
With Windows 8.1, however, everything is easier and it is possible not only to restart the " Espora Risorse " process behind the desktop and to browse the folders with a click, but it is also possible to terminate it deliberately, and then restart it, in case of problems.
You can end Windows Explorer by simply holding down the CTRL and SHIFT keys and right clicking on the taskbar.
In Windows 10, as well as in Windows 7 and Vista, you can close Windows Explorer by opening the start menu and right-clicking on the word Programs by holding down the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
Under Properties appears the option to close explore resources and make all folders disappear, including the desktop.
To restart the desktop in all versions of Windows, press the key combination Ctrl + Shift + Esc, start the Task Manager -> click on the File menu -> Run New Task -> write explorer.exe -> OK.
The Windows 8 task manager allows you to restart explorer.exe in one fell swoop by right-clicking on Windows Explorer in the process tab.
There are many other ways to close and restart the Windows desktop :
- With an icon on the desktop
create a new text document, write the following command on it:

taskkill / f / im explorer.exe
start explorer.exe
Save the file with the name " restart-explorer.bat "
- With an item on the context menu that appears by pressing the right mouse button on the desktop.
