Keyboard shortcuts on Firefox and Chrome

Each computer program is designed for use with both the mouse and keyboard.
Even the Windows system has many keyboard shortcuts and even on Office programs the key combinations make the job easier and faster.
In other articles I had already written about the keyboard combinations for Windows 7 and XP and the key combinations for Word.
This time we are talking about web browsers which, thanks to the possibility of being able to create personalized shortcuts, can be used to surf the internet with greater speed and be much smarter.
After all, it's hard to keep typing the address of a website every time you want to visit it or go to Google and search for the site where you want to browse.
Of course you can use the autocompletion technology present in all modern browsers or the collection of favorite sites, but with the keyboard shortcuts you do much earlier and you are never wrong.

First of all, Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer (and also Safari and Opera) have handy shortcuts for browser commands .
The complete list of key combinations are in the help pages of Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
The main ones that I want to remember and that I recommend learning are at least 4:
On Chrome and Firefox and IE, press CTRL-L to send the cursor to the address bar and start writing a URL or search.
For the research, however, you do it first by pressing CTRL-K (only Firefox and Chrome) so as to disable the autocompletion and not be mistaken.
On all browsers then, after a Google search for a particular word, when you open a site in the results, you can immediately find where that word is written with CTRL-F that opens the search box.
Obviously, on Windows, with CTRL-C you copy a selected word or portion of text and with CTRL-V you paste but this I hope you all know.
The keywords of Firefox and Chrome, instead allow you to open addresses and sites quickly, without having to remember them and doing targeted searches.
This is very useful to immediately open the most visited sites, including those on the favorites list.
On Firefox, for example, if you have put Pom-heyWEB in your favorites, right-click on it and open the properties window.
In the keyword box, you can write pom as a shortcut to open navigaweb.net and save.
Whenever you want to open this site, to search for a guide or information, just type the word pom on the address bar to open Pom-heyWEB !.
For each site you can therefore specify any keyboard shortcut.
On Google Chrome, the same thing can be done by right-clicking on a favorite and clicking on Edit .
The keyword is the name of the favorite site.
In this case, however, the problem is that then the names can be confused in Chrome so this trick is not very practical.
The Shortcuts extension for Chrome comes to the rescue which allows you to specify keywords to call up chosen websites .
To use Shortcuts, just type the > key on the address bar and then enter the configuration to add new keyboard shortcuts.
To call up the shortcuts, you must write the > symbol on the top bar, press Tab or Space and write the keyword.
In Chrome, however, there is a much better functionality that allows you to search on specific sites with custom shortcuts .
Each site that has a search box is automatically saved in Chrome in the search engines section.
Then right click on the Chrome bar, click on " Change search engines " and scroll the list below to note all the new site additions that have already been visited.
For each of them you can specify a different keyword (the second column) which allows you to call up the specific search engine for that website.
For example, the short word nav can be set for www.navigaweb.net.
When you want to search for something on Navigaweb.net directly from the address bar of Chrome, without therefore entering the site first, just write Nav followed by a space and then search.
On other browsers the search on websites from the address bar is less convenient but still possible by following the guide "Change default search engine of the web browser address bar"
The methods described above can be really useful to speed up internet browsing with quick shortcuts, without relying on the collection of favorites.
