As every year at the end of September, Apple releases the Mac operating system update, going to version 10.15 with the code name MacOS Catalina .
MacOS Catalina is available for download from the Apple Mac store and can be installed automatically or even from scratch if you prefer a clean installation.
MacOS 10.15 Catalina is a free update that requires the same hardware requirements as the previous version, 10.14 MacOS Mojave, and which cannot be installed on Macs released before 2012. Precisely, MacOS Catalina can be installed on all models released since 2012 onwards : MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, iMac, Mac Pro.
To download and install MacOS Catalina as an update just open the Mac App Store to find Catalina in the updates tab.
The installation should work smoothly but, for safety, it would be best to make a backup copy of important data.

As tricks and functions for Mac OS there are several features for ordering the desktop, the dark mode, a better management of the screenshots, an integration with better iOS and then a gallery view of the preview files. The option can be activated from the System Preferences -> Security and Privacy menu and requires that you log in with the same Apple account on Mac and iPhone (and also that double factor authentication is active).

The new operating system improves the integrated apps of Mail, Facetime and Photos. I also remember that already from the previous version it is possible to open picture-in-picture windows which serves, for example, to see a video in a floating window and always in the foreground while still keeping another full-screen program open.
The main integrated applications have been updated, including that of Messages, to send SMS and iMessages from the Mac and that of Photos which, as on the iPhone, allows you to filter photos based on faces or places and to review Memories .
Do not forget the automatic system to keep the disk free from obsolete files and the ability to quickly move photos and videos in iCloud to save internal space on the Mac. Press the apple button on the top left and then go to About this Mac -> Archive -> Manage to find options to activate to recover disk space.
