When you open a Windows folder, from the Tools menu, you can enter the folder Options configuration screen where you can customize the display of the files (in Windows 10 just go to the View tab at the top) The most important tab is that relative to the display where, for my habit, I always change two settings compared to the default view: - Activate the display of hidden files and drives folders;
- " Show extensions for known files ".
This allows more experienced users to have greater control over the files.

If you want more personalized folder customization, you can use a small program such as Folder Options X (only for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10) that expands the folder options with three additional features of which Windows 7 and Windows 10 does not have .
1) Deactivate the selection of files in a row in the "Details" view.
This can be beneficial for a number of reasons, for example, to prevent accidentally dragging an object into a subfolder.
The new behavior prevents you from making a multiple selection of files in a folder if, in the detail view, you press the mouse on a column other than the first one.
2) Activate the column filters in all views and not only in the 'Details' view .
Windows 7 has some great options for filtering files based on the last modification date, by name or type.
The ability to sort files is available only for the Detail view and not when you see larger icons.
The second option therefore brings customizable filters in each column, in each type of folder.
3) Activate the dragging of the icons to order them differently .
In a Windows 7 or 8 folder you cannot change the position of a file or folder by moving it higher or lower (as you do on the desktop).
Once the third tweak is applied, you can move the files up and down as you wish, without following a predefined Windows order.
Once these additional options are applied, you can open any folder and try the changes.
If they don't like it, Folder Option X allows you to restore the original values.
Keep in mind that the program does not require you to stay active in the background all the time and that, after changes, it can also be removed.
