Resize and rename images and photos "in batch

One type of program that should never be missing on a PC is to resize and rename images and photos .
Digital photo files taken with cameras and smartphones accumulate, take up more and more disk space and often have names automatically created that are impossible to search for such as DSC_0001 or AAAA01.
When you find yourself with many folders full of files up to 8 Mega, you need to sort the images, reorient them, share the most beautiful ones, adjust them and rename them so that they are recognizable.
Obviously then this work cannot be done manually photo by photo, but it must be done automatically, for all the photos in one go or as they say in English, " in batch ".
Most basic image changes can be made through programs that are as simple as they are effective.
Below, we see the best alternatives to resize and rename images, a list of small Windows programs all free to choose from.
1) XnConvert is a program for editing groups of photos with automatic effects that I have already spoken about in the past, very powerful, capable of doing many "batch" operations.
Just drag and drop the images into the "Input" tab and add the actions from the "Actions" tab choosing whether to resize or rotate the photo, add a writing or a filter, a border or a frame and change the colors.
In the "Output" tab you can set the rule to give new names to the files, so that each photo has a name followed, for example by a sequential number.
XNConvert can be downloaded for Windows, Linux and Mac.
2) Light Image Resizer is the new name of the popular VSO Image Resizer.
It is one of the easiest programs to use to resize images by changing their aspect ratio.
Images processed with Light Image Resizer can then be resized, copied, renamed or compressed to reduce the file size.
3) IrfanView has been my choice for years, an excellent image viewer also capable of making quick changes to photos.
The IrfanView Batch Editor allows you to resize, rename, convert and edit multiple images simultaneously.
This is found under the File menu -> " Batch Conversion / Rename ".
The only flaw may be its simplicity and the fact that the options are many and not always easy to guess.
Fortunately, the Italian language can be installed.
4) FastStone Photo Resizer is completely free, and despite its name, in addition to resizing it also has the function of renaming images in batches.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to use FastStone to do both at the same time.
From the advanced options, hidden in a button under the "Batch Convert", you can also rotate images, adjust colors, add text and watermarks and do practically any manipulation and adjustment.
5) Picasa is a big program, perhaps still the best photo viewer and manager on the computer, although it has been abandoned by Google for several years.
You can resize photos, add watermarks, change the quality of images and move them from one folder to another in a consistent way, based on where and when.
6) PhotoMagician, although not as powerful as XnConvert, is an excellent group photo resizer, which can also be used to add basic effects and convert formats.
The nice thing about this program are the resizing profiles optimized for devices such as the iPhone, the iPod, the PSP and others.
PhotoMagician is also in Italian, easy to understand and use.
7) Flexxi is a very recent open source program that can resize, rotate, rename and convert images and even save them on a cloud service such as Dropbox.
8) Advanced Renamer is a powerful program to rename photos and files in batches, according to personalized rules.
This had already been reported in the list of programs to rename many files and photos along with criteria and rules.
9) Photosize.net is a site that allows you to compress photos quickly, without registration, for free.
You can simply drag the image files into the box of the site to be able to download them again with reduced dimensions, without loss of quality.
10) Fotosizer is a simple program to resize photos in batches, already mentioned in the article on how to reduce the size of images
