Receive critical updates and patches of important programs

One thing many people don't know is that when there are new updates to programs installed on your computer, it is almost never because there are new features. When new versions and patches of programs come out, these are sometimes used to correct development errors (so-called bugs) but, above all, to cover security holes and vulnerabilities .
Just think of Windows, the Microsoft operating system, which every Tuesday releases new patches and critical updates that only serve to solve security problems. A program like Adobe Acrobat Reader is updated at least once a month because it is targeted by hackers who are very keen to annoy large IT companies.
Installing critical updates of the most used and important programs, therefore, is important but, clearly, it cannot be checked manually every day.
To be sure you have all the programs up to date, from a security and protection point of view, it can be useful to download and install an "updater" tool such as Avira Software Updater .
PSI scans the operating system for vulnerabilities and finds all outdated and outdated versions of programs and extensions or plug-ins, which can leave ports on your computer open to numerous species of attacks and threats.
It offers a kind of shield to allow the user to immediately know which programs need to be updated and which ones must be uninstalled because they are out of production.
The first time you use the Software Updater, a full scan is done on Windows to locate all installed programs that have an insecure version. The main interface shows, at the end of the check, the summary with the detailed results, also with a graphic scheme. For example, programs such as Adobe Acrobat Reader may be found. .Net Framework and Winamp not updated and things like Shockwave Player which is no longer developed. In the left column there is the solution to be taken to correct the security flaw with, at times, the link to download the patch or the new version of the product .
By default, that is, as soon as installed, Avira Software Updater activates the monitoring of the programs and remains to work in the background always, warning the user when a software is to be updated. If you want to use PSI only manually, without automatic detections, you need to disable the start-up of the computer and pro-active monitoring. From the settings you can also create rules to exclude paths from the scan.
I personally think this is an excellent security program to discover problems and vulnerabilities on the computer.
I therefore recommend installing and using it at least once, put the PC on purpose and then, if you do not want to weigh down the computer with realtime monitoring, disable the automatic start.
Alternatives are software that downloads program updates automatically which are discussed in another post.
