Google has made a change to its Gmail service by adding a new feature that will be quite evident both on the Gmail site and on the applications for Android and iPhone. From now on you can activate the new features of Gmail which now organizes and filters the mail received in various preset categories .
Tabs containing special categories of incoming messages are added to the main interface of Gmail, that of the Inbox .
In particular there are: the main tab, social, promotions, updates and forums.
Gmail's new tabbed interface can be activated and configured from the gear icon at the top right.

Then press on the gear and then on Configure mailbox to choose the tabs to activate and display.
The messages received in Gmail are then organized into special categories so as to facilitate the search for messages and receive that often useless mail so that it does not bother and does not make it more difficult to receive important emails.
The five tabs that can be activated are as follows:
- Main : personal e-mails, important ones that do not come from mailing lists or "noreply" addresses that cannot be answered.
- Social collects notifications from social networks, therefore also from Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Linkedin.
- Promotions is the category in which messages are received from sites such as Groupon or from travel sites that offer special offers and marketing emails in general.
- Updates are newsletters and other personal updates including certificates, receipts. invoices and bank statements.
- Forums : emails from mailing lists, forums and other discussion services.
Sorting works very well, however, in case of errors, you can move messages from one category to another by dragging them with the mouse.
In some cases there may be some confusion also because it is difficult to distinguish between the categories updates, forums and social networks.
It is clear that, at least the first few times, you will have to check all the cards regularly to avoid losing important messages.
If you don't like the new setting, you can deactivate the Gmail tabs by pressing the settings icon in the top right corner and pressing on configure mailbox .
Deselect all options so that only the main box remains and click Save.
Note that the tabs of this new Gmail feature are based on Smart Labels, automatic filters for updates, newsletters and alerts that can still be activated from the Labs settings but which, in fact, are activated with the new configuration.
