Depending on whether you want to get there by bicycle, on foot or by car, there are useful apps to search for places to visit, to find places to eat, to find cycle paths, to use public transport, to refuel and so on.

1) The Google Maps app on Android and iPhone smartphones has really become powerful in recent times, with the functionality of nearby places that allows you to discover every point of interest around the position where you are.
For example, a Roman could walk in the center of Rome using Google Maps (in walking mode) to find out what is left and right, find the names of monuments and churches and find places to eat or shops to do in purchases that, perhaps, are not known.

4) Moovit is the most useful Italian app (iPhone and Android) for those who use public transport to get around the city, to find out when the bus arrives at the stop or the train at the station.
For real-time information on public transport, you can also search for other applications for some specific cities such as Rome and Milan.
5) CityMapper is the best application, for Android and iPhone, to know timetables and departures of buses, trams, metro and trains.
The application is also in Italian but, at the moment, it only works in the Italian cities of Rome and Milan.
6) To find the parked car, Android users can take advantage of Google Now, the app that works as a personalized agenda and reminder.
If Google Now is active, every time you park your car, if your smartphone is connected to the internet, the app will mark where the car was parked automatically and you can always find it using the Google Maps directions.

11) Wikitude, free for Android and iPhone is another application that is worth keeping on your smartphone, to be used when going around to visit a new place.
It is an app with augmented reality, which frames a place from the camera showing the names of the places on the screen and many other information on what we see.
