3G 4G / LTE coverage map for mobile and internet (Tim, 3, Wind, Vodafone)

When going somewhere we always observe if he takes his cell phone, if there is a field to receive phone calls or to surf the internet with his smartphone .
There is always a lot of competition between the various operators and there are many legends about the coverage of one or the other operator: as many have understood in recent years, there is no operator who takes well wherever we go to Italy, but there may be areas where there are multiple antennas of an operator, therefore coverage (and speed) tend to be much higher.
If we want to know in advance the coverage of a certain operator in a specific city, street or place in Italy, we will show you in this guide how to check the coverage of mobile operators of the LTE or 4G networks (currently the fastest).
For the necessary checks, we will use the information provided by the operators themselves (complete with updated maps for 3G and 4G / LTE coverage ) and the information collected from the Opensignal free license site .

1) TIM coverage

TIM has one of the best coverage in Italy, as you can check directly from the official page -> Check coverage TIM.

The map offers the possibility to enter the name of a city, a street or a street at the top and to check the type of TIM coverage available, by clicking on the Search button.
If we want to know the coverage where we are, just click on the crosshair button next to the search field and authorize the browser and the site to locate us.
From this page we can also check coverage based on the technology we are interested in: at the top right of the map we can choose whether to check coverage on the 2G network (the slowest), on the 3G network, on the 4G network and on the new network 4GPLUS (the fastest).

2) Vodafone coverage

Vodafone is undoubtedly an excellent operator when it comes to national coverage, offering very high speeds even in places far from big cities (where we can really find the fastest connections even for mobile).
To check coverage with this operator, simply open the dedicated page -> Check Vodafone coverage.

In the simple window that we will see, simply type in the name of the city or province in which to check and monitor the coverage recorded on the map.
If we are interested in faster networks ( 4G and 4G + ), we select the respective buttons to be able to filter the coverage on the map based on the network we intend to exploit; if we look for 3G and 2G coverage (slower networks), just press the respective buttons to update the map.

3) Coverage 3

3 Italia is a good operator for coverage and speed in large cities, while it may be in difficulty in less famous cities or in areas far from large population centers.
In any case, we can check if our municipality is well covered by signal 3 by visiting the official website for coverage control -> Check coverage 3.

Within the map (based on Google Maps) we can check the coverage for each area of Italy, also using the search field included to find streets and addresses.
On the side, to the left of the map, we can change the different types of network supported by pressing the 2G, 3G and 4G LTE buttons.

4) Wind coverage

Wind on paper is the tail light when it comes to coverage, but having "joined forces" with 3 (in fact they are two operators using the same network), coverage is more than good in almost all of Italy, even if with speeds tend to be lower than the main competitors.
To check the coverage of the Wind we can use the official website present here -> Check the Wind coverage.

The union between the two operators mentioned is also visible on this page, which is in fact identical to the coverage control page of 3: we will have a map (based on Google Maps) with which to check coverage in every area of Italy, with the various supported technologies (the 2G, 3G and 4G LTE buttons on the left of the map).

5) Check global coverage with Opensignal and nPerf

If we do not trust very much the data provided by the single operators (which could very well offer much more optimistic data than those actually offered), we can rely on the coverage maps offered by Open Signal, completely independent of the telephony operators.
In order to check the coverage we will have to install the specific app for our smartphone; download links can be found here -> Opensignal (Android) and Opensignal (iOS).

On the Opensignal apps it is possible to scroll the map of Google Maps and precisely check where the operators' antennas and the individual coverage cells that spread the 2G, 3G or 4G LTE signal are, in every street and in every corner of Italy (and of the world).
To use the app, simply enter the address or simply move the map and zoom in on the city we want to check.
For each country or area in which we carry out the search, the coverage of the antennas of the local operators and the signal strength (good green, poor red) are indicated ; for each area we can thus obtain the true coverage of an operator and the speeds that can be obtained in that specific area, in addition to the ranking of the best operators (by speed or by ping).
We can also personally carry out speed tests at any time to contribute to the growth of the accuracy and effectiveness of the app, which is based almost exclusively on user evaluations.
Even with NPerf it is possible to do the same type of verification in Italy and in every country in the world.
The nPerf 2G, 3G and 4G coverage map, reachable on this site, shows, for each Italian telephone operator (Tim, Wind and Tre, Vodafone and also Iliad ), the availability of the data connection service.
Network speeds can then be measured via the nPerf app for Android and iPhone.

6) Conclusions

We have shown you the concrete tools that can be used to obtain a map of the coverage of a specific operator, so that we can choose well if we want to accept some new offers or carry portability from one operator to another.
In another article we also saw the coverage maps of free and free Wifi in Italy, very useful to be able to use the free Wi-Fi made available by public administrations and commercial activities.
In another post, however, we explained in detail the speed of mobile phone connections: 3G (UMTS), HSPA, 4G (LTE) .
