How to dust the laptop to clean it inside and out

A computer inevitably gets dirty with use, dust accumulates and obstructs the internal components in particular in the area of the fans, thus making our notebook to be noisier and to heat up quickly (especially in the warm months). In addition to the internal components we must not forget also the external cleaning, since our fingers will inevitably leave dirt on the keyboard, on the trackpad and on any other surface that we touch while using the laptop.
In order to keep our computer in shape and to give it a better look, in this guide we will show you how to clean the laptop inside and out, so as to make it less noisy, easier to cool and with a less scruffy or sloppy appearance.

How to clean the laptop inside and out

All cleaning operations must be carried out with the notebook turned off and without any type of power supply (therefore no socket and no battery connected). If our laptop has an internal non-removable battery, we will only have to check that the notebook does not turn on by mistake during cleaning and pay close attention during disassembly, to avoid causing short circuits or damaging the contacts of the internal battery.

How to clean the laptop inside

Dusting the laptop inside is not an easy task, since in most cases we will have to disassemble the entire lower panel in order to access the components where the dust accumulates the most.

Given the delicacy of the components inside any notebook, we recommend that you always contact a specialized technician for complete cleaning, so as to be sure to return the functioning computer even after removing all the components (disassembling a laptop is a real feat, especially on modern ones equipped with interlocking panels and hidden screws).
If, on the other hand, we want to proceed with the superficial removal of the dust present on the heatsink fan, we advise you to get a compressed air cylinder to blow directly into the cracks (without even opening the case) or by opening the rear panel and blowing the air between the fan fins.

One of the best compressed air cans that we can use for the purpose is the Ewent EW5601 (10 €).
The other internal components of the notebook should not require too much cleaning, but if we disassemble everything, it is advisable to check every corner where dust may have lurked (especially near the optical reader or the air vents).

How to clean the laptop outside

Dusting the external surfaces of the notebook and the elements we use most (keyboard and screen) is much simpler and within everyone's reach (always with the necessary precautions).
To clean the screen we can use a dedicated cleaning kit such as the Screen Mom Kit for cleaning (€ 16).

Just use the sprayer on the cloth included in the kit and pass the latter on the screen, using soft and circular movements.
To clean the keyboard we need a very strong jet of air, so that we can lift all the crumbs, dust and dirt that lurks between the keys; for this purpose we can use the OPOLAR compressor (79 €).

Equipped with a rechargeable battery and a large spout, we can use it with great efficiency between the keys of our notebook, paying attention to the breath (which must not be prolonged, otherwise we risk damaging or losing some keys).
To remove fingerprints or dirt from the keyboard keys we can also use the keyboard cleaning gel, such as the SYOSIN Keyboard Cleaning Gel (€ 9).

The gel is adhered to the keyboard and removed after 2 minutes, so as to effectively remove stains, grease and fingerprints.
To dust the USB, HDMI or Ethernet ports, we will not have to use any type of compressed air or cloth: just get a cotton swab or a toothpick, to be passed gently inside the sockets.

Finally, to clean the external surface of the notebook from dust (screen cover and lower part), simply use any microfibre cloth, such as those present in the Charm & Magic kit (€ 10).

To further protect the notebook from accidental dust and scratches, we can also place a protective cloth, such as those visible in the CLEAN SCREEN WIZARD kit (€ 22).

Just place it on the keyboard before closing the cover, so as to have a protective cloth for the keys and for the delicate surface of the screen.

Conclusions

Cleaning the notebook regularly will allow us to extend its life and preserve its best appearance: just do this once a year to have a clean, quiet and well-cooled laptop. If, on the other hand, we find an old notebook in our hands with evident signs of dirt, we recommend that you take it immediately to a technician, so that you can request a thorough cleaning of all internal and external components.
