Microsoft's strategy in launching its new Windows 10 operating system is very different from the past. If before the previews of the new Windows systems were in fact only in English and oriented especially to developers, today they are immediately available to everyone, even in Italian, with a simple and almost hassle-free update procedure.
Windows 10 thus becomes the only operating system for PCs, tablets and phones (for which it is finally no longer called Windows Phone)
After making it possible for everyone to update the PC with Windows 10 (preview version), it is now also possible to install Windows 10 on Nokia Lumia smartphones .
UPDATE 2016 : Official update for Lumia from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10
To be precise, it is possible to update the Windows Phone 8.1 system to Windows 10 on the Lumia 630, Lumia 635, Lumia 636, Lumia 638, Lumia 730, Lumia 830 smartphones.
To try it, you must first enroll in the Windows Insider program and then install the Windows Insider app .
After installing the Windows Insider application, open it, log in using the same Microsoft account used in registering for the program and proceed with the download of Windows 10 Technical Preview.
The Windows phone may restart several times to complete the installation, all automatic.
Among the new features available with this version we have:
- Full wallpapers for the home screen.
- more quick actions from the operations center.
- Interactive notifications
- Greater integration of speech-to-text, to control the telephone by voice (even if the voice assistant Cortana is, for now, only in English).
- A powerful Photos app that integrates with Microsoft OneDrive.
- New Project Spartan browser engine, now integrated in Internet Explorer, which will then become a completely new browser.
Microsoft invites all owners of supported Lumia smartphones to perform this update and are curious to try Windows 10 before the official release, but not without giving some warnings.
Meanwhile, before proceeding, it is worth reading the official blog page where Windows 10 for smartphones is announced, in order to know what may not work well due to some known bugs to be solved.
In the blog it is also said that, even if the update procedure, in their tests, has never failed, it is not said that it cannot happen by sending the smartphone in brick, that is, by locking itself without working anymore.
It is however specified that anyone who tries this preview of Windows 10 on his Lumia will always be able to go back if something does not work .
For this reason, only Lumia phones that have a recovery image available are supported.
A new tool called Windows Phone Recovery Tool was then created to restore the image, which will restore the image if necessary.
