Start with a new Windows PC

Those who have just bought a new HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Toshiba, Asus PC will surely find Windows 10, the definitive new operating system, which in Microsoft's projects should be the last of the series and which will be kept in constant evolution.
In this guide we see how to start with the new PC, what to do from the moment of the first power-on and in configuring the first options, so that you can use it immediately for good, in safety, without unnecessary stuff on it and with all the programs that are necessary for the computer.
When you first turn on your PC, laptop or desktop or hybrid tablet, (or after a clean install of Windows 10), you are asked to select your country / region, language, keyboard layout and time zone first to press the Next button.
You are then asked to accept the legal contract and to connect the PC to one of the available Wi-Fi networks.
To connect to the internet immediately, click on the name of the Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
If you don't have access to a Wi-Fi network, you can skip this step and connect after setting up your PC.
The next screen is quite important, because you can click the small link to customize the settings instead of using the quick default ones.

Customizing the settings means deactivating some options that Microsoft would like to be activated, for security reasons or even to share PC information with Microsoft itself.
I therefore recommend reading the various options and deciding to disable them without fear if it is considered appropriate.
The first two screens mainly have settings related to user privacy and participation in improving Windows 10 based which can all be disabled safely.
In particular I don't care that Microsoft knows what I write to the PC, I don't care about open hotspots and I don't want to share the connection with other computers.
The only options that you can choose to keep active are those related to Skype (if you use it) and that of location sharing, if you are using a tablet or laptop.
The third screen, however, can be accepted as is, without changing the protection and update options.
Among the new default apps, the only one to select is Groove Music instead of Windows Media Player to listen to music.
To finish the first configuration you will be asked to log in with your Microsoft account .
There are some advantages to using a Microsoft account, but if not available and if you don't want to register a new account, then you can skip this and use a local account and log in without a Microsoft account.
Go ahead in creating an account with name and password and complete the initial configuration of the new Windows 10 PC.
You may be asked, at this point, to register the new PC on the manufacturer's website such as HP, ASUS or Lenovo, by filling in a form with name, surname and address.
This screen can be skipped.
Once the Windows 10 desktop appears, the computer is ready to be used even if it is still required to do some important preparation.
First of all, connect the computer to the internet to activate the Windows license and check the activation status of the original Windows .
To do this, click on the start menu (lower left corner), go to Settings and then to Update and security> Activation .
In another article, we explained what Windows 10 activated with digital rights means.
Very important, then, is to install the latest Windows updates, in Settings> Update and security> Windows Update .
If there is any problem with Windows Update, refer to our Windows Update troubleshooting guide.
Driver updates should also be included in the Windows 10 update, to be installed immediately.
The last thing to do finally is to uninstall and remove those unnecessary pre-installed programs that each manufacturer puts on the PC, such as McAfee Antivirus (or any other antivirus since it is already integrated in Windows 10), such as Cyberlink programs and all those ASUS programs, HP, Lenovo etc.
Likewise, in addition to classic programs like Notepad and Paint, Windows 10 also includes several applications visible from the Start menu.
Some of these, such as the solitaire game, Minecraft, Candy Crush saga, can be removed without problems (by clicking on them with the right button and pressing on Uninstall ).
In the end, install your favorite programs as you would any other computer and, in particular, the programs to always be installed on Windows.
On new PCs it is also worth installing some of the best Windows 10 apps from the Microsoft Store, accessible from the Start menu and from the system tray icon.
It is only important to know that in order to install applications (free or paid) from the Store you need to log in with a Microsoft account.
