This year the Batman movie is definitely one of the main cinematic events so a video game set in Gotham City comes at just the right time. This is not, however, the game of " Batman the dark knight ", but a rather particular title, Gotham City Impostors, where two different armed gangs face each other in a total war in the urban suburbs of Gotham .
Batman is gone, leaving the city at the mercy of bands made up of Batman fans, the Bats and Jocker fans, the Jockers, who give it for good reason.
Gang members don't differ in being good or bad, but only in the ridiculous way they dress.
The game has no history and is just a simple and healthy urban war between two different factions armed with deadly weapons .
The whole experience takes place online and each player is part of one or the other gang, trying to demolish the rival team in one of three main modes: Team Deathmatch, Fumigation and Psych Warfare .
Team Deathmatch is the race to whoever kills the most opponents and wins the first team that scores 50 kills within the time limit or the band that leads when the timer ends.
Fumigation is the mode where you have to conquer different objectives and defend them.
Psych Warfare is instead the "steal flag" mode where the team that finds and maintains possession of a radio wins.
The game is, of course, an FPS shooter that stands out for the chaos of the battle in the city and for the nice and ironic violence never in bad taste.
Players can choose from a variety of weapons: machine guns, grenade launchers, rifles and so on; each character is equipped with special objects such as roller skates to move fast and fly on ramps.
It is also possible to use cloaking skills, jumps, double jumps, and grappling hooks for climbing.
Although Gotham City Impostors is characterized by frenetic and eventful action, it also reminds you not to take yourself too seriously.
The game, fast and fun, looks a lot like what is the best of the genre, Team Fortress 2, with funny and never bad-looking characters and with ways of killing and dying so surreal that they always tear a smile.
There are different types of battlefields or arenas in which to shoot and each character can be customized as you wish, to differentiate it from the others.
As you play, you gain experience points and level up to become stronger and buy more powerful and destructive weapons.
This game was released in February for a fee, but was made free in late August 2012.
Today everyone can download it for free from the Steam site, to play on Windows PC and have fun in the urban war of the poor city of Gotham, ridiculously dressed like a madman in a Batman or Joker costume.
