Gallery Go for Android, like Google Photos, lighter and simpler

With Android smartphones, there is no shortage of Gallery apps to manage the photos taken, only some flaws. Even the best of all, Google Photos, has many accessory features inside that make it mandatory to install, but not so practical for those who just want a quick and light app to view photos. Usually, therefore, you use the Gallery app pre-installed on the phone which is different depending on the manufacturer (Huawei, Samsung etc.).
Now Google has decided to intervene with a new gallery application called Gallery Go, fast, very light on the hardware resources of the phone and super essential, to be used practically only to review the photos saved inside the phone and the videos recorded with the camera .
Gallery Go is therefore the light version of Google Photos, which works without the need for internet connection, on any Android smartphone.

Gallery Go

Being an app optimized for Android Go, Gallery Go has a download size of less than 10 MB, requires only 20 MB at the time of installation and is the perfect app for cheap or older smartphones with only 2 GB of RAM.
In addition to the smaller size, Gallery Go's main selling point is that it uses machine learning to automatically organize photos on your mobile phone. The app works offline and does not require the Internet to organize your photos into categories such as selfies, food photos, screenshots or anything else (to see this automatic organization in groups you have to wait a little while).
The app is minimalist and essential, with a division between photos and videos, without any settings menu.
However, there are some photo editing tools that you can use when opening a photo in full screen, by pressing the Edit button. Among these tools are those to crop the photo, rotate it and to add a color filter. There is also the magic wand button to automatically improve the photo and the one to share the photo or send it to someone via social media.
Gallery Go also allows you to see the photos in other folders of the smartphone, not only those taken with the camera, but also those, for example, received by Whatsapp.
Like any gallery app on Android, you can easily copy and move photos between folders in Gallery Go and also create new folders and move them to the SD card very easily.
In the Folders view of Gallery Go you can also read the size in MB or GB, useful for knowing how much space the photos occupy on the memory.

Differences between Gallery Go and Google Photos

The differences between Google Photos and Gallery Go are many and we can summarize them in this list:
  • The size of the Gallery Go app is much smaller than the Google Photos app.
  • Gallery Go is only for Android while Google Photos is also available for iPhone and via the web.
  • Gallery Go does not have automatic photo backup, which is instead the main function of Google Photos.
In this regard, we can see how it works in the guide to automatic backup of photos with Google Photos on Android and iPhone
  • .
  • The user interface is very essential in Gallery Go where therefore the functions of the Assistant, the Albums and all the settings are missing.
Gallery Go is still better in accessing photo folders, since in Google Photos it is possible to get there less quickly through the main menu. In addition, at the top of Gallery Go you can immediately open the Video and Screenshot folders.
  • The difference in the interface continues when you open individual images. In Gallery Go, the options are clearly visible and recognizable while in Google Photos the icons are not so intuitive.
  • In Google Photos it is not possible to see how much space the photo folders occupy which is instead a function of Gallery Go.
  • Google Photos' editing features are significantly superior and largely missing in Gallery Go.
  • The trash is missing in Gallery Go, so if you delete a photo, it cannot be recovered as it is in Google Photos where they remain in the trash for 60 days.

Download App Gallery Go for Android

Gallery Go can be downloaded for free, only for Android smartphones, from the Google Play Store .
It is definitely an app that I really recommend to install and download, as an alternative to Google Photos exclusively for the photo viewing function (Google Photos remains essential to keep on the phone for automatic backup and other useful functions).
